Xi’an to the Terracotta Warriors: metro plus bus, or the North Station coach
From the Bell Tower area, use Line 2 to Beidajie, Line 1 to Fangzhicheng and Line 9 to Huaqingchi, then bus 613 or 602 to the Terracotta Warriors. It suits travellers comfortable with several changes. From Xi’an North, compare the dedicated coach from the north square; fewer transfers can make the day easier with children or older companions.
A practical time comparison
| Option | Boarding and route | Time to allow |
|---|---|---|
| Metro plus local bus | Beidajie → Fangzhicheng → Huaqingchi Exit C → bus | An editorial allowance of about 2 hours from central Xi’an; add margin for waits |
| Xi’an North visitor coach | North-square Chengbei coach-station pickup → museum Car Park 1 | 2025 journey reference: about 70 minutes on the road, excluding waiting |
| Private vehicle | Agreed hotel pickup → museum drop-off | Depends on the hotel and roads; fewer changes, with entry walking remaining |
Allow about 70 minutes for the dedicated coach’s road journey, plus waiting. Ask the pickup counter which departures run that day rather than relying on a 2025 frequency.
Start with your real departure point
From the Bell Tower area, a typical route uses Line 2 to Beidajie and Line 1 to Fangzhicheng before joining Line 9. From Xi’an North, Line 2 is also a useful starting link. From Xi’an railway station, the museum describes Line 4 to Wulukou and then Line 1. These are different stations, so do not copy instructions for one simply because both contain Xi’an.
Use the current metro map and interchange signs to reach Line 9 at Fangzhicheng, then travel towards Lintong and leave at Huaqingchi for the road connection. Follow the station interchange instead of heading outside to search for another entrance.
Build the complete time from your hotel door: walking to the metro, waiting, changing, locating the bus, the road ride and entering the site. A short journey quoted for one section does not establish the duration of the whole trip. Allow additional time if anyone needs lifts, slower walking or assistance navigating the station.
At Huaqingchi: check the 613 or 602 connection
The museum’s published directions name Lintong tourist bus 613 and local bus 602 for the onward journey and identify Exit C in the Huaqingchi access instructions. First check whether the exit is operating normally, then find the signed stop and confirm direction. A matching bus number on the opposite side of a road may be going away from your destination.
Different sections of the museum guide use destination-stop wording such as Terracotta Warriors, Qinyong Village or Qin Terracotta Warriors. Show 秦始皇帝陵博物院(兵马俑) to the driver or staff and confirm the alighting point before boarding. A person holding a scenic-area sign is not proof that their vehicle is the public service you intended.
If taking a taxi for the last stage, set the correct museum entrance or agreed drop-off point. Huaqingchi metro station, Huaqing Palace and the Terracotta Army are not interchangeable entrances. Leaving the metro at Huaqingchi is a connection decision, not a claim that the museum is immediately beside the station.
Compare transport, admission and guiding separately
For the linked Klook charter, select the Terracotta Army/Huaqing Palace option, not a city-only or Huashan itinerary. Establish the vehicle journey, the dated museum reservation and any live guiding as separate items. A driver booking does not secure admission. If you need English commentary, choose a package that names a live English-speaking guide.
Independent travel involves the through metro fare plus the final bus or taxi and museum admission. For a group, add everyone’s transport before comparing it with a whole-car quotation. A single bus ticket is not a fair comparison with a vehicle for several people.
Plan the return before entering
Save the return bus stop or parking position on arrival. Afterwards, allow time to walk out, find the vehicle and continue to Huaqingchi or your hotel. An evening performance at Huaqing Palace needs a separate late-return plan. For a first visit, a flexible dinner is easier to manage than a tight train or flight after the museum.
Frequently asked questions
Is the museum beside Huaqingchi metro station?
No. Huaqingchi is the interchange for the final bus or car. The museum’s directions name Exit C and Lintong tourist 613 or 602.
Must I go into central Xi’an from North Station first?
No. Use Line 2 for the museum’s metro route or compare the visitor coach at the north-square Chengbei pickup point.
Does a charter confirmation let me enter the museum?
Only a package explicitly including the required admission reservation covers it. Otherwise book admission separately and carry the original document used.
