SOLANA works best as an unhurried winter evening in Beijing: get your bearings before dark, explore a manageable stretch of illuminated streets, then sit down for dinner. Its appeal lies in the combination of buildings, plazas and a waterside setting. If you are travelling specifically for a giant Christmas tree or a timed stage show, check the new season’s programme before committing to the trip.

As of 17 October 2026, a complete announcement for SOLANA’s late-2026 light festival is still pending. Listings labelled “2026” often refer to the 18th edition, which ran from 19 December 2025 to 15 March 2026 and has finished. The festival details below describe that previous season; location, transport and evening-planning advice are presented separately. None of the old installations is promised for the coming winter.

SOLANA Light Festival 2026: check which winter the dates describe

Item Current information What it means for your visit
Late-2026 season Dates, theme and daily lighting hours await a verified announcement Avoid non-refundable plans built around a particular installation or show
    18th edition 19 December 2025–15 March 2026 A completed cross-year season, not December 2026
17th edition Opened 27 December 2024; ended 16 February 2025 A previous edition started after Christmas Day
Everyday location 6 Chaoyang Park Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing Separate visiting the shopping district from attending a seasonal event
Access Metro Line 14 to Zaoying; the city lists an approximately 500-metre walk Allow for walking beyond the station and within the complex

Compare the 18th-edition opening report with the 17th-edition tourism listing. The year at the end of a winter festival’s date range can be misleading. A season that ended in March is a different trip from one starting in December. If Christmas Eve is your only available evening, check the opening date before falling in love with the promotional photographs.

    What the previous festival offered

The 18th edition turned traditional paper-cutting into illuminated installations, with six auspicious creatures as recurring motifs. Beijing’s March 2026 festival guide also describes floral forms and AR light effects. Think of it as art distributed through a shopping district rather than a single entrance leading to a row of stalls or a show with a fixed running time.

Look at the relationship between the lights and the buildings

Last season’s locations included a winged-horse installation at the west entrance, a carp display incorporating the central plaza’s steps, and a light gateway on Liangma Food Street. These examples explain the festival’s approach to its setting; they are not a map of the next edition. Architecture enthusiasts can focus on the scale of the work against the buildings, while portrait photographers may prefer one clear background to a rushed circuit of every piece.

Treat interactive features as seasonal extras

The design team’s 18th-edition project description outlines ten themed scenes and digital interactions. A mini-program also offered a stamp-collection activity at the time. Old digital features and gift promotions are not year-round visitor services. If a new activity is operating when you visit, read its conditions before joining. You can enjoy the physical streetscape without collecting every virtual item or delaying dinner for an app-based challenge.

Getting to SOLANA from Zaoying station

Beijing’s current commercial-district guide recommends Line 14 to Zaoying station and gives an approximately 500-metre walk. Navigate first to “SOLANA / 蓝色港湾, 6 Chaoyang Park Road”, then check the building, floor and entrance of your actual restaurant. A meeting point named only “SOLANA” can leave friends waiting in different plazas. A clearly named shop entrance is more reliable than “the brightly lit tree”.

For a stroller or wheelchair, ask station staff which accessible exit is available and follow the complex’s lift and ramp signs. The shortest walking route on a phone is not automatically step-free. For a taxi, choose a specific entrance and confirm a practical pickup point again before leaving; do not assume a vehicle can reach each outdoor installation.

On the return journey, check the last service in your direction and any onward transfer, rather than the latest train shown anywhere on the station timetable. If your hotel is several changes away, an earlier dinner and a shorter second photo walk are more useful than relying on unannounced holiday extensions. The Beijing transport guide can help with the broader route from your accommodation.

Arranging dinner and the lights around your evening

Allow roughly two to three hours including a meal as a starting point, not an official visit duration. A multi-course dinner, shopping or a separately booked activity needs additional time. Do not squeeze navigation, restaurant queues and photography into the same nominal one-hour gap. The options below are suggested sequences, not lighting or performance schedules.

    Approach Suggested sequence Best fit
Arrive before dark Locate dinner and your return route, take a short outdoor walk, eat after dark, then revisit nearby streets if you feel like it First visits, families and older travellers
Dinner first Meet at a booked restaurant and choose nearby plazas afterwards rather than chasing another district’s event After-work meetups and relaxed dates
Cold or wet evening Make indoor dining the anchor; split outdoor time into two short walks and skip the waterside extension if conditions are poor Anyone avoiding prolonged outdoor standing

For photographs, choose somewhere you can pause without blocking doorways, paths or stairs. Lowering the exposure slightly can help preserve details in bright lights before you add people to the frame. There is no need to climb planters or cross barriers for a better angle. A short walk can be a pleasant alternative to standing in a restaurant queue, but keep your group together rather than leaving children or companions waiting in another section.

Admission, dining, skating and river cruises

The official Beijing tourism listing records no general admission charge for the shopping district and ordinary opening hours of 10:00–22:00. Those are not festival lighting hours or a promise that every restaurant, entertainment venue and temporary experience is free. When booking a meal, ask about holiday menus, deposits, dining limits and the position of your table. A simple evening walk does not require buying an unrelated experience.

The current district description includes a cinema and a skating venue, but those are separate purchases. If part of your group wants to skate while others prefer the lights, agree on a meeting point and time before splitting up, and check the actual venue’s ticket conditions. Having a rink in the shopping district does not make skating part of light-festival admission. Likewise, old shop signs in photographs are not a current restaurant directory.

A short walk beside the Liangma River can complement the evening, but the city’s summer 2026 cruise guide does not establish December sailings. For a winter boat trip, verify the travel date, boarding pier and cancellation conditions separately. Without a confirmed sailing, dinner and the land-based streetscape already make a complete outing; the evening does not need a cruise to justify it.

    Family comfort and nearby plans

With children, choose one priority area and take a break after it rather than queueing for every installation. Warm footwear, gloves, a hat and a charged phone are more useful than another bag of photo props. Leave room in the schedule for finding lifts and getting settled at dinner. If barriers or crowd controls change the walking route, follow the current signs rather than treating an old map as a shortcut.

SOLANA, Sanlitun and Universal Beijing Resort serve different purposes. Keep a waterside dinner evening in this district; save a separate full day for film characters and theme-park attractions. Compare alternatives in Christmas in Beijing and choose your base with the Beijing accommodation guide. Appearing on the same Christmas list does not make several destinations a sensible single-evening itinerary.

    SOLANA Light Festival FAQs

Are the late-2026 festival dates announced?

A complete new-season announcement is still pending as of 17 October 2026. The 19 December 2025–15 March 2026 dates belong to the completed 18th edition.

Will the lights definitely be on for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day?

Do not assume so. The 17th edition opened on 27 December 2024. If 24–25 December are your only options, confirm the next edition’s opening date first.

What time do the festival lights switch on and off?

A verified daily timetable for the next season is not available here. The district’s ordinary 10:00–22:00 opening hours do not establish lighting hours, restaurant schedules or special-event times.

Do I need an entry ticket?

The official tourism listing records no general admission charge for the shopping district. Food, cinema visits, skating and individual temporary experiences are separate; free access does not make every activity free.

Which Metro station should I use?

Take Line 14 to Zaoying, then walk. The city lists about 500 metres to the district, with additional walking depending on your restaurant or target installation.

Can I add a Liangma River cruise?

Consider it only after verifying sailings on your winter travel date and the relevant pier. Summer schedules and old vouchers are not evidence of December operation.

How much time should a family allow?

Start with two to three hours including a meal and keep outdoor walks short. This is planning advice, not an event rule. Skating, a film or a longer dinner needs extra time.
