For New Year’s Eve in Guilin, choose between a central-city night and a separate stay in Yanshan. A lake cruise suits a first visit; East-West Alley is the more flexible choice for food and old-city streets. Families interested in themed entertainment can make Sunac’s Fengshen park their main outing. Each choice calls for different tickets, dinner timing and transport, so there is little benefit in attempting all three in one evening.
This guide is for a two-day year-end break. West Street, the Yulong River and Yangshuo’s major shows need their own accommodation and pickup arrangements. Use the Guilin–Yangshuo transport guide for the onward journey rather than treating both destinations as one compact nightlife area.
These are travel choices for the 2026–2027 holiday, with no official 31 December 2026 countdown programme confirmed. Cruises refer to ordinary sightseeing. Sunac’s previous New Year celebration took place around 31 December 2025–1 January 2026; its arrangements do not carry forward.
Which kind of Guilin evening suits you?
| Place | Best for | Main costs | Decide first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two Rivers and Four Lakes | A first visit and seated city sightseeing | The chosen sailing and dinner | Route, pier and confirmed departure |
| East-West Alley / Zhengyang | Food, old-city streets and a flexible finish | Meals and optional venue visits | Dinner booking and the walk back |
| Sunac Fengshen park, Yanshan | Families and themed entertainment | Admission, food, hotel and transfers | Operating attractions and a local overnight plan |
Three Guilin choices worth giving proper time
1. Two Rivers and Four Lakes: build the evening around a sailing
Ordinary sightseeing; route and departure need confirmation

A lake cruise provides a clear focus for a first night in Guilin. Leave your bags at the hotel, eat before a confirmed departure or choose an earlier sailing with dinner afterwards. The pagodas, bridges and lake views belong to one connected experience; treating each landmark as another must-do stop would make the night busier without adding much variety.
Distinguish the Four Lakes product from the Two Rivers and Four Lakes route. They cover different water sections and have different durations. Water levels and daily dispatch can also affect the operation. If anyone is uncomfortable on boats, a short land-based walk near Ronghu or Shanhu followed by a better meal is a reasonable alternative.
- Booking: confirm the exact route and both boarding and arrival piers. Complete any required reconfirmation; “Two Rivers and Four Lakes” alone is not a precise taxi destination.
- Families: include every passenger when booking and check child-seat, age/height and accepted-ID rules. Follow the operator’s 20-minute early-arrival requirement. Ask about the actual boat before bringing a stroller or relying on step-free boarding.
- Afterwards: plan from the arrival pier to your hotel. Take a warm layer and avoid arranging dinner so tightly that a delay leaves you without a table. Ordinary tickets do not promise a midnight countdown.
If a cruise suits the group, compare the ordinary route options. Check the selected date, route, pier, ID eligibility and cancellation terms. A listed product does not establish 31 December special admission or a midnight departure.
2. East-West Alley and Zhengyang: make dinner the main event
Established heritage streets; individual venues set their own hours

East-West Alley suits travellers who would rather let dinner set the pace. Start around the lanes outside Jingjiang Princes City’s Zhengyang gate while some daylight remains, then choose between local snacks and a proper sit-down meal. Guilin rice noodles and oil tea offer food-focused starting points. With older relatives or anyone who tires easily, book a comfortable table first and keep the walk modest.
The attraction is the mix of old-city surroundings and everyday commerce. A local winter 2026 report describes food, craft and cultural experiences in the lanes. Check any individual performance or courtyard visit for your date. Add part of Zhengyang pedestrian street if it suits the group; the neighbouring areas do not need separate meals or separate full-evening itineraries.
- Arrival: navigate to the actual restaurant or an agreed alley entrance. Leave luggage at the hotel and use a legal pickup point outside congested lanes.
- Spending: distinguish street wandering from dining, courtyard admission and performances. Ask about sitting time, set menus, deposits and cancellation before reserving dinner.
- Staying nearby: compare the real walking route and noise exposure. A room on the edge may suit an early sleeper better than one directly above busy venues. Individual business hours do not establish an all-night street programme.
3. Sunac Fengshen park: a separate Yanshan outing and overnight
Themed attraction updated in 2026; check winter and evening operation
Choose Yanshan if themed scenes, character interactions and rides appeal more than another central lake walk. Give the park a proper afternoon, then have dinner and stay nearby. This arrangement makes more sense than leaving a downtown restaurant late and travelling south in the hope of catching a show.
Search using the current name. The operator’s August 2026 announcement confirms the resort’s core attraction relaunched as Guilin Fengshen fantasy performing-arts park (桂林封神幻境演藝城). Biyou Palace replaces the old Happy Tribe branding, with a Ferris wheel among the described facilities. Older water-park and aquarium package names are not a reliable guide to the updated winter offer.
The Guangxi tourism review of the previous New Year records a Sunac celebration. Use a new dated announcement for any coming late-night programme and its ticket conditions. Without a suitable evening session, visit during the day and let dinner and the overnight stay complete the trip.
- Location: 398 Dayan Road in Yanshan. Navigate to the entrance stated in current ticket information; this is a separate outing from central Guilin’s lakes and alleys.
- Admission: check entry times, main-show inclusion, ride restrictions and child rules. A hotel package should be read item by item, and water attractions should not be assumed to operate in winter.
- Return and weather: arrange a local room or pickup around the confirmed finish. Have rain and warm-clothing options for outdoor areas, and distinguish operator cancellation from changing your own plans.
Two days and one night: choose the city or Yanshan

A central-city cruise night
Arrive on 31 December, leave bags and eat near the old city or lakes. Allow time to collect tickets and reach the confirmed pier. Return to a city hotel after the cruise, then explore the lanes in daylight on 1 January before departure or continuing to Yangshuo.
An old-city dinner break
Walk through East-West Alley in the afternoon, settle into a chosen restaurant and add a short Zhengyang or lakeside walk if the weather suits. Keep New Year’s Day breakfast relaxed instead of spending hours outdoors waiting for an unannounced event.
A Yanshan park stay
Use the actual opening and performance schedule to set arrival. Check in or leave luggage, visit Fengshen park and eat locally. Add a late programme only if officially confirmed. The next day, choose either central Guilin or Yangshuo rather than several transfers.
The room and transfer matter as much as the ticket
For a city night, compare actual hotel addresses around Shanhu, Ronghu and East-West Alley. Check street noise, the route back and cancellation terms alongside the room description. A “lake-view” room does not establish a view of a fireworks display. For Yanshan, ask about transport to the current park entrance, dinner service and late check-in before paying for the room.
Flying in? Start with the Guilin airport-to-city guide and leave a realistic margin before dinner or a sailing. Guilin, Guilin North, Guilin West and Yangshuo are different stations. For a following stay in Yangshuo, use the onward transport guide to match the arrival point to your hotel rather than booking by destination name alone.
Build a simple budget for the room, dinner, main admission and the return journey. Check cruise cancellation deadlines and the park’s response to weather or equipment changes. Keep the option to finish early, shorten riverside walks in rain and follow barriers and staff directions at piers and crowded streets.
Guilin New Year’s Eve questions
- Is there a midnight countdown cruise?
- No special sailing for 31 December 2026 has been announced. Ordinary sightseeing follows the booked route and departure. A midnight trip would need its own dated operator announcement and ticket.
- How do Four Lakes and Two Rivers and Four Lakes differ?
- Compare coverage and the time available around dinner. The ordinary official products list about 60 minutes for Four Lakes and 80–90 minutes for Two Rivers and Four Lakes. Water conditions may change the route; the confirmed arrangement for your day controls.
- Is an overnight stay worthwhile without a cruise?
- Yes, for an unhurried old-city walk and meal. You can adjust East-West Alley, Zhengyang and a short lakeside section to the weather, then use the following morning without a late transfer.
- Is the Sunac attraction still called Happy Tribe?
- The operator announced the updated Fengshen park in August 2026, with Happy Tribe becoming Biyou Palace. Check current packages rather than relying on the old names to infer admission rights.
- Can I add Guilin Songcheng after a central-city cruise?
- Guilin Songcheng is in Yangshuo and needs a separate transfer. A Yangshuo overnight is a more practical basis for planning that show than treating it as a nearby city-centre add-on.
