The high-speed railway from Harbin to Yichun is now operating. It opened on 28 September 2026, with the fastest announced journey from Harbin Railway Station to Yichun West taking 1 hour 46 minutes. That makes rail a practical option, but the headline time does not cover your hotel-to-station journey or the onward trip into the forest.

The useful planning work is at either end: choosing the right Harbin departure station, finding the appropriate bus or car at Yichun West, and making the return connection. This guide covers Yichun in Heilongjiang, written 伊春, not the different city of Yichun in Jiangxi, written 宜春. It also separates current transport references from temporary opening-week promotions.

The line is open, but not every train takes 1 hour 46 minutes

The Heilongjiang Transport Department’s opening announcement confirms passenger operations began on 28 September 2026. The route includes Harbin, Harbin North, Hulan North, Xinglongzhen West, Suihua South, Qing’an South, Tieli, Riyuexia and Yichun West. That is a list of stations on the line, not a promise that every train calls at all nine.

The advertised fastest journey is specifically Harbin Railway Station to Yichun West. Stopping patterns and journey times vary, so check the train you intend to book rather than applying the fastest figure to every date and departure station. Guides that still describe the railway as a future project are no longer a sound basis for planning this journey.

For central Yichun, start by checking services to Yichun West. If your actual destination is around Tieli or Riyuexia, compare the relevant local station with your accommodation or host instead of automatically travelling to the end of the line and doubling back. The word “Yichun” in a tourism description does not establish which station is closest to the entrance you need.

Choose between Harbin, Harbin North and other departure stations carefully

If you are staying around Central Street or the central city, services from Harbin Railway Station are a useful starting point. If you are staying north of the river around Songbei, also check Harbin North, but make sure your selected train actually calls there. Railway 12306 allows boarding at an intermediate stop on the booked date and train, without refunding the unused part of the journey. Check the actual stops and ticketed route; this does not make other trains or stations interchangeable.

Metro Line 2 connects Central Street, Harbin Railway Station and Harbin North. The operator’s published route description places Harbin Railway Station in the Qixiangtai direction from Central Street, while Harbin North is in the Jiangbei University Town direction. They are opposite directions, so settle the railway booking before choosing a metro platform.

Harbin Railway Station’s north square is not Harbin North Railway Station. One is a side of the central station; the other is a separate railway station. When ordering a car, use the complete station name and an appropriate entrance rather than a vague reference to the north side. The Harbin hotel and neighbourhood guide can help you compare accommodation locations.

Similarly, staying near Harbin West does not mean your Yichun train automatically leaves from Harbin West. A city-wide search may show different departure stations. Follow the actual service you select and include the trip from your hotel to that station. Different Harbin stations need not offer the same services.

Check the date, Chinese station names and onward transport before buying

Use Railway 12306 to search your departure station and Yichun West, 伊春西, for the date you will travel. Compare departure and arrival times, journey length, seat class and fare. If searching in English, check the Chinese characters as well: 伊春 in Heilongjiang and 宜春 in Jiangxi can both appear as Yichun, but they are entirely different destinations.

The railway’s opening briefing described differentiated fares, with actual prices available through 12306. There is no single fare here presented as valid for every Harbin–Yichun train. Likewise, the total number of services announced for the opening period should not be mistaken for the number of daily one-way departures on your particular station pair.

Check the return journey at the same time, especially for a day trip. An available outbound seat does not establish that a suitable return train has seats, and a convenient arrival time does not guarantee an onward bus is still running. For the broader account, document and booking process, use the separate China high-speed rail booking guide. The priority here is choosing the right stations and making the connections work.

Allow time for station security, finding the departure gate and managing luggage, and check the station’s boarding cut-off. If you fly into Harbin before taking the train, add the airport-to-railway-station journey and a sensible flight-delay margin. An airport arrival and a railway departure are not a same-building connection.

At Yichun West, choose the bus for your destination rather than its number

Yichun West is the high-speed arrival station in this guide. The city-end bus stop called Yichun Railway Station, 伊春火车站, is a different place, not another exit from Yichun West. A municipal transport briefing before the opening placed the bus interchange on the west side of the station forecourt, near the exit. Follow the current signs when you arrive.

The bus company updated the high-speed station routes on 9 October 2026. The route durations below come from that update; the fare column is separately attributed to the opening notice. This matters because some opening-week timings have already changed.

Station bus City-end destination and useful coverage Full-route estimate in the 9 October notice Fare in the opening notice
Line 1 Yichun Railway Station, via city hospital stops, Shuishang Park and the administrative centre About 45 minutes Distance-based: RMB 2 minimum, RMB 5 for the full route
Line 2 523 Beijun, via Zhongxin Street, Songyuncheng and the municipal government area About 50 minutes Distance-based: RMB 2 minimum, RMB 5 for the full route
Line 3 Cuiluan Erchang, serving parts of Wucui District About 15 minutes RMB 3 one way

The operator’s 26 September opening notice makes RMB 2 a starting fare on Lines 1 and 2, not a flat price for any distance. Confirm the charge for your stop when boarding. The notice lists cash, WeChat or Alipay transit codes, and Yichun bus IC cards; a backup payment option is still sensible. The China mobile payment guide covers preparation before the trip.

Do not keep using the opening notice’s roughly 35-minute estimate for Line 1: the 9 October update lists about 45 minutes. These figures are full-route estimates, not departure intervals or guaranteed train-door-to-hotel times. Ask your hotel for its nearest stop rather than choosing Line 3 simply because its full route is the shortest.

The bus times have directions: 20:45 is not the city-to-station last departure

The 9 October notice gives the first city-origin departures as 03:55 from Yichun Railway Station on Line 1, 03:50 from 523 Beijun on Line 2, and 04:25 from Cuiluan Erchang on Line 3. It lists 20:45 as the last departure from Yichun West on all three routes. These are times at particular endpoints, not a promise of fixed-interval service at every stop throughout that whole period.

The timetable image attached to the same notice also lists the final departures towards Yichun West from the city endpoints: 18:30 on Line 1, 18:25 on Line 2 and 19:05 on Line 3. Keep those separate from the station-origin 20:45 departures. They are dated planning references, not the times the bus reaches an intermediate hotel stop.

For your return train, check the boarding stop, direction and actual departure for that day, then add the bus journey, the walk into the railway station and time for security and boarding. Do not assume that a bus departing the city at the listed final time will necessarily connect with whichever train you have chosen.

The bus company says service arrangements may be adjusted to railway schedules. Its enquiry number is 0458-3643437, with the notice giving enquiry hours of 08:30–17:00. Confirm early-morning or late-evening plans during those hours the previous day rather than waiting until you are outside the station at night.

If a train delay means you miss the onward bus, use an authorised vehicle or a previously confirmed accommodation transfer. Do not assume every bus waits indefinitely for any delayed train, and do not rush across traffic while dragging luggage to catch a departing service.

Forest attractions and outlying accommodation need a separate last-mile plan

The railway has made reaching the Yichun area easier. It has not placed every forest attraction, county centre or resort beside Yichun West. A city bus terminus is not necessarily a scenic-area entrance. For accommodation outside the central city, confirm the vehicle, meeting point, whether the quote is one-way or return, and what happens if your train is late.

There were free scenic transfer promotions around the railway opening and National Day holiday, but old publicity is not evidence of a permanent service. The September briefing described the Fenglin County free transfer as a short-term arrangement, and an October service retrospective explicitly described a ten-day programme. For later travel, check whether a service exists on your date, whether it now costs money and whether reservations are needed.

Station staff or a designated visitor-service counter can help identify the current arrangements. For taxis, follow the signs to the designated underground waiting area described in the municipal briefing, confirm your destination and the charging arrangement, and keep the receipt. Confirm the destination, departure and price for the particular attraction; do not assume a free direct shuttle is included.

For a day trip, choose the return train before filling the itinerary

Whether a day trip works depends on the actual trains and how far you travel after arrival, not just the fastest 1-hour-46-minute rail figure. For time in the central city, add both railway journeys, local transport at both ends and waiting time before deciding what fits. For a more distant forest attraction, include the road journey back to Yichun West as well.

A practical approach is to select the return train first, establish when you must leave the day’s destination, then work backwards. Avoid waiting until the last moment to find a car. Several attractions appearing under the broad heading “Yichun” may be spread across different counties and are not automatically a sensible single-day circuit.

In winter or poor weather, check railway and road-transport notices for the day. A railway designed for cold conditions does not guarantee clear roads, unchanged train operations or year-round access to every attraction. Keep warm clothing, charging equipment and essentials accessible, and leave room to adjust the return plan.

    Harbin to Yichun transport FAQs

Has the Harbin–Yichun high-speed railway opened?

Yes. Passenger services began on 28 September 2026. The fastest announced Harbin Railway Station–Yichun West journey is 1 hour 46 minutes, but check the duration of the train you actually select.

Should I search for Yichun or Yichun West?

For the high-speed journey described here, use Yichun West, 伊春西. The city bus endpoint called Yichun Railway Station is a different location. Also avoid confusing Heilongjiang’s 伊春 with Jiangxi’s 宜春.

From Central Street, are Harbin and Harbin North in the same metro direction?

No. On Line 2, Harbin Railway Station is in the Qixiangtai direction; Harbin North is in the Jiangbei University Town direction. Check the ticket first, and remember that Harbin station’s north square is not Harbin North station.

Does every train take exactly 1 hour 46 minutes?

No. That is the announced fastest station-to-station time. It excludes the hotel journey, waiting and onward transport at Yichun West. Check the selected train’s stops and duration on 12306.

Do all Yichun West buses cost RMB 2?

No. The opening notice lists distance-based fares on Lines 1 and 2, starting at RMB 2 and reaching RMB 5 for the full route. Line 3 is listed at RMB 3 one way. Confirm the current fare for your destination.

Does the 20:45 last bus let me leave the city for Yichun West at 20:45?

No. That is the last departure from Yichun West in the 9 October notice. The attached timetable lists city-origin final departures of 18:30, 18:25 and 19:05 for Lines 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Check your stop and allow time for railway boarding.

Are the free scenic shuttles from Yichun West permanent?

Do not assume so. Opening-holiday arrangements included a Fenglin programme described in the service retrospective as lasting ten days. Check the service, price and reservation conditions again for your travel date.

Can I visit Yichun as a day trip from Harbin?

It may work with suitable trains and a realistic local itinerary, but not every forest destination fits. Work backwards from the return train and include road transfers. An overnight stay can be easier if the destination is farther away or the connections are tight.

Plan the train and Yichun West connection together

Confirm that you mean Yichun in Heilongjiang, choose the correct Harbin departure station, then check the date-specific service to Yichun West. Select onward transport for your actual accommodation and keep city-origin bus times separate from station-origin times on the return. The faster railway is useful, but the last mile and the journey home still belong in the same plan.
