Wanlong Ski Resort is worth considering when skiing is the main purpose of your Chongli trip: you already have basic turning skills, want several consecutive practice days, or prefer to keep accommodation and skiing within one resort. First-time skiers can consider it too, but should arrange instruction, confirm beginner-area access and understand the ticket before choosing a length of stay. A long beginner run is not, by itself, a reason for someone who cannot stop reliably to take a lift up the mountain.

This is Wanlong in Chongli, Zhangjiakou, Hebei, not Wanlong Baidengshan in Datong. For a 2026–27 trip, match your hotel, passes, lessons and transfers to the same dates. Around the start and end of the season, ask whether beginner terrain and the lifts you need will be operating before committing to the itinerary.

Wanlong, Thaiwoo or Genting: choose the right destination

Chongli is a ski region rather than one ski area with a universally valid lift ticket. Wanlong, Thaiwoo Ski Town and Genting Resort Secret Garden have separate accommodation locations, equipment facilities, lesson arrangements and ticket conditions. Sharing a regional rail gateway does not make one resort’s transfers or hotel benefits valid at another.

Destination What to compare first What to check before booking
Wanlong Consecutive ski days, skill development and accommodation within the resort Your hotel building, starting ski hall and whether the room rate includes the ticket you actually need
Thaiwoo A ski-town setting, dining and downtime for mixed-interest groups Thaiwoo’s own hotel and ski packages should not be treated as Wanlong products
Genting Resort Secret Garden Genting Snow Park and its Olympic-venue background Competition terrain, public access and the terrain open on your day are different questions

Genting is another option if seeing the Olympic venue matters to your group, but it is not the same ski area as Wanlong. For a Yunlong or other joint pass, check the dates, resorts and connecting route, then arrange your way back. Holding the pass does not mean every connection is open that day.

What to check before paying for a 2026–27 trip

An early-bird discount is only useful if the package fits your dates and ability. Check when it can be used, whether suitable beginner terrain will be open, and what you can change if snow conditions affect the trip. These are the main questions to settle before paying.

    • Check opening day separately from terrain availability. An opening does not mean every lift, beginner area and part of the mountain opens together.
    • Check daytime and night skiing separately. Do not carry forward last season’s night-ski dates, slopes or ticket validity.
    • For a stay-and-ski package, check skiing on arrival and departure days and whether breakfast, equipment, lockers and instruction cost extra.
    • For early- or late-season travel, favor arrangements you can change and allow for a reduced skiing program if conditions require it.

A search result headed “2026 prices” may simply be a hotel’s dynamically dated page, with an indicative price for summer or the next few days. It is not a winter quotation. Compare the same dates, party size, ski duration and cancellation terms before deciding which combination is cheaper.

Wanlong piste map: check the edition before planning a route

Wanlong piste reference map labelled September 2026, reproduced by a travel agency; not a live list of open terrain
Image source: Zhangjiakou Dihe Tourism (reproduced Wanlong map)

The legend on this image uses green circles for beginner terrain, blue squares for intermediate terrain and black diamonds for advanced terrain, alongside double-diamond and terrain-feature symbols. These are the classifications on this particular map. Experience on a similarly colored run in another country does not establish that the difficulty is equivalent. Locate your accommodation, equipment hall and meeting point first, then follow the lift destination and a suitable route back.

Wooded and terrain-feature areas are also drawn on the map. Their appearance on the illustration is not evidence that they are open, suitable for you or available for independent exploration. On a first visit, ask an instructor or patrol member to confirm a complete return route within your ability. Choose another area if the route depends on terrain beyond your skills. Do not cross closure ropes or follow strangers into an area when signs, visibility or operating status are unclear.

    Is Wanlong suitable for beginners?

    First-timers: prioritize stopping and turning

Arrange instruction first and confirm the lesson meeting point and practice area. The useful goals for your first day are fitting equipment, using the carpet lift correctly, controlling speed and stopping safely. Having tried skiing a few times is not the same as maintaining control along a longer run. If more experienced friends want to explore, agree separate plans and a meeting place rather than letting the group pressure a beginner into going higher too soon.

Improving skiers: consider the whole descent

If you want to try Changlong, ask an instructor whether your turning and stopping are consistent enough for it. A long run labelled beginner is not automatically an easy first descent. Ask about merging traffic, rest points and how to return when tired. Snowboarders should check flatter links too, where stopping can make restarting difficult.

Intermediate and advanced visitors: inspect before increasing intensity

If you want sustained turns, varied gradients or longer descents, use your first lap to learn the terrain rather than chase speed. Grooming, visibility, wind and other skiers can change a run’s practical difficulty; the same section can also feel different later in the day. Parks, ungroomed areas and wooded terrain require additional skills and judgment. Include them only when formally open, appropriate to your ability and supported by local guidance. Race or training barriers are not casual access routes.

Getting to Wanlong: rail, airports and the last mile

Compare Taizicheng trains, then arrange the hotel transfer

Start with China Railway 12306 to compare Beijing North or Qinghe trains to Taizicheng, then match one with your hotel transfer. Check the exact departure station, stops and arrival time. Do not buy the final train before finding out whether a vehicle can collect you, and ask whether pickup requires a reservation or costs extra.

Chongli and Taizicheng are different railway stations. If a train to Chongli better suits your schedule or accommodation plan, obtain a confirmed transfer or quotation from that station before buying it. Do not assume every ski bus serves both. Make the booked destination, intended alighting station and transfer reservation consistent. If considering getting off before the ticketed destination, first check both the train’s stopping pattern and the applicable railway rules.

Give the transfer provider your date, train number, passenger count, number of ski bags and full hotel name. Ask where to meet, whether a reservation is needed, the last departure, the procedure for delays and whether the vehicle serves your actual building. Save the return arrangements too. Arrival at the station is not the start of a ski session: getting off the train, waiting, driving, checking in, collecting tickets and fitting boots all take time.

Beijing Capital PEK and Daxing PKX: compare the complete journey

Check the airport code before buying flights. Beijing Capital and Daxing are separate airports. For either one, compare a prearranged road transfer to Wanlong with traveling into Beijing and connecting to high-speed rail. With children and ski bags, one fewer luggage transfer may matter more than the lowest fare. A late flight can be easier to manage with an overnight stay in Beijing and travel to the mountains the next day.

For an airport coach, find a departure you can book for your date, then check the Wanlong stop, ski-bag allowance and cancellation terms. If no suitable service is confirmed, compare a reserved transfer or an overnight stay in Beijing before taking the train. Do not leave it to chance after landing. See our Beijing airport transfer guide and Beijing transport guide for the city connection.

    Zhangjiakou airport and driving

Zhangjiakou Ningyuan Airport is worth comparing if your origin has a suitable flight, but the road transfer to Wanlong is still another booking. Add ski-baggage charges and the transfer quote to the flight price, and check that someone can collect you at the actual landing time. A nearer airport does not guarantee a free shuttle meeting every flight.

Driving can suit travelers comfortable with winter roads and carrying equipment. Check current weather and road information, and ask your hotel about parking, charges and the unloading entrance. With a rental car, confirm winter suitability and any relevant rental restrictions. If you lack experience on icy roads or will be tired after flying, consider a qualified transfer service for the road segment. In either case, allow for adverse weather rather than treating an ideal driving estimate as a connection guarantee.

Wanlong lift tickets: compare inclusions before prices

Compare the pass, equipment and lesson separately, then add up the items you will actually use. A beginner staying in the teaching area may not need the broadest mountain pass; bringing your own equipment also changes which package offers value.

    Component Questions to ask
Lift and slope access Fixed date or flexible validity? Day, night or a timed session? Which lifts, carpets and areas are included?
Equipment Skis or snowboard, boots and poles included? Are helmet, clothing and goggles separate?
Instruction Private or group? Actual teaching duration, meeting point, language and learner-age conditions?
Other on-site costs Locker, storage, deposit, overtime, equipment damage and exchange conditions?
Hotel package How many guests, breakfasts and ski tickets? What access applies on arrival and departure days?
Cover and cancellation Is insurance included, and what does it cover? What happens with lift suspension, partial closures, non-use or cancellation?

Compare an own-equipment product separately from a rental package. Beginners should establish the appropriate teaching area before buying access. For a multi-visit or season pass, count realistic skiing days and check weekday, weekend and holiday restrictions, named-user rules and expiry. Days you are unlikely to travel should not make a pass appear to break even. A booking channel should clearly identify the supplier, redemption location and complete terms. Keep the order record.

Equipment rental and lessons: leave time on day one

When reserving equipment, specify skis or snowboard, height, boot size and ability. Let the rental staff make the appropriate settings rather than adjusting bindings yourself. Boot fit matters more than appearance. Tell staff about obvious pressure pain, excessive heel movement or numbness before starting. Try the helmet and goggles together, and prepare suitable gloves, base layers and socks beforehand. “Equipment included” should not be read as a promise that every item you will wear is supplied.

Describe your learning goal clearly. A complete beginner, someone who can stop but cannot link turns, and a skier comfortable on intermediate terrain need different instruction. Sharing a lesson with a friend of substantially different ability may be less effective than expected. Obtain confirmation for English-language teaching, children’s instruction or a particular qualification in advance. An English-language website does not guarantee that a suitable English-speaking instructor is available. Whether the lesson includes the lift ticket or equipment depends on the particular product.

For children, check minimum age, group size, drop-off and collection procedures, breaks and where parents can wait. Reduce the day’s goals when a child becomes cold or tired. Arrival day can be used for equipment fitting, orientation and a shorter introductory session; putting the longer lesson on the following day reduces the risk of a delayed flight or train affecting it.

Where to stay: three Wanlong properties and a town base

If Wanlong is your main ski area, compare on-site accommodation with the full cost of staying in Chongli town and travelling to the slopes each day. Check the beds, meal allocations and ski inclusions for your exact dates before deciding which room rate is better value.

Dragon Palace Hotel: compare the central resort setting

Exterior, suite living space and dining at Dragon Palace Hotel, Wanlong

Dragon Palace is inside Wanlong, with family-suite and view-room options worth comparing for your group. Staying on site is useful if children need a midday room break. Ask about the route to the equipment hall and whether your chosen rate includes skiing: a resort address does not make passes, rentals and lessons part of every booking.

Shuanglong Hotel: verify Tower A and the meeting point

Shuanglong is in Tower A at Wanlong, another on-site option to compare with Dragon Palace. If lessons are booked, ask which passage leads to the meeting point and where you can store equipment. A short distance on a map may still involve walking around to another entrance. Set your transfer destination to Tower A rather than the general ski-resort address.

Wanlong Ski Resort International Apartment: check the actual room

Exterior, bedroom, kitchen/living space and gym at Wanlong Ski Resort International Apartment

Wanlong International Apartment is in Shuanglong Apartment Tower B, worth comparing when room size and beds matter for a group. Check separate beds, child extra-bed rules, breakfast allocations and extra-person charges for the exact room. If planning to cook, ask what appliances are available; the apartment name alone is not a guarantee of cooking facilities.

The photos show different rooms and property spaces. Confirm kitchen equipment, gym access and meals for the room and package you book.

Staying in Chongli town: budget for both daily journeys

A town base may be worth comparing if your group wants to eat in town or ski different resorts on different days. A “Chongli hotel” is not automatically close to Wanlong’s entrance and does not guarantee a free ski shuttle. Obtain the actual outbound and return arrangements, first and last departures and costs before booking. A single late return is inconvenient if someone may want to go back to the room early. If flights require a night in Beijing before or after skiing, see our Beijing accommodation guide separately.

    A realistic two-day, one-night Wanlong plan

This is a suggested trip structure, not an advertised package. From Beijing, leave room on day one for rail travel, the transfer, luggage storage, equipment fitting and orientation. Experienced visitors can select a ski session that fits their actual arrival; beginners can focus on a shorter lesson or basic practice. Before dinner, reconfirm the next day’s conditions, lesson meeting point and return transport rather than leaving every arrangement until morning.

On day two, put the main skiing or lesson comfortably ahead of your return. Before taking the final lap, work backward from equipment return, luggage collection, checkout, the road transfer and station boarding time. Train departure is not the time to leave the slopes. Two or more nights can make a trip easier when you are flying in, arranging family lessons or alternating skiing and rest. That is a pacing recommendation, not a resort minimum-stay rule.

Non-skiers, weather and a final planning check

For companions who will not ski, confirm hotel relaxation spaces, restaurant hours and whether any suitable sightseeing-lift product is available. Do not use ski-ticket conditions to infer pedestrian lift access. For older travelers or families with very young children, prioritize room comfort, walking surfaces and easy access back indoors. An activity offered in summer should not automatically appear in a winter backup plan.

Use adjustable warm layers, a suitable helmet and eye protection, and pay attention to wind, visibility and fatigue. Sunny promotional images are not a forecast for your travel day. Adjust the plan if lifts are suspended or an instructor considers the conditions unsuitable. When choosing travel cover, check how it treats your planned recreational skiing, equipment and rescue-related needs; the policy wording determines the cover. The most useful final check is that your ticket, lessons, room and transfers all refer to the same Wanlong, the same dates and the same travelers.

    Wanlong Ski Resort FAQ

Is Wanlong the same as Thaiwoo or Genting?

No. They are different ski destinations within Chongli, with separate tickets, accommodation and services. Use the full resort and hotel names for reservations and transfers. Any cross-resort access depends on the terms of the current-season product you buy.

When does Wanlong open for 2026–27?

Check the current-season opening announcement and snow conditions, especially for an early trip. Ask whether the beginner area and lifts you need will be operating. Available hotel rooms do not establish that skiing is open; flexible travel and accommodation are useful while dates remain uncertain.

Should I book a train to Taizicheng or Chongli?

Start by comparing Taizicheng services and hotel collection; Chongli is another option. The stations are different, so choose a train that works with a confirmed transfer rather than arranging the final leg after buying the ticket.

Is the station transfer always free?

Not necessarily. Ask whether your booking includes pickup, how to reserve it, which trains it serves and where it drops you. Report the number of ski bags too; do not assume a vehicle meets every train.

Can a complete beginner ski at Wanlong?

It can be considered if you first confirm appropriate beginner terrain, instruction and equipment. Buy access matched to the lesson. Changlong’s beginner classification does not make it a suitable first descent for someone unable to stop reliably; let an instructor assess progression.

Does a Wanlong hotel stay include skiing and rental?

Not necessarily. Room-only, breakfast-inclusive and stay-and-ski plans can be different products. Check the number of tickets, valid sessions, equipment, lessons and departure-day benefits instead of relying on a “ski hotel” label.

Can I ski directly from Wanlong to Genting?

It depends on your joint-pass terms, the connecting area’s opening and your return arrangements. Ask staff about a suitable route and timing. A joint ticket is not permission to cross closure ropes.

Can I choose a ski route from this map alone?

Use the reference for orientation, not as a list of runs open that day. Check the current on-site map and closure signs, and ask an instructor or patrol member about any uncertain route rather than following strangers.
