For New Year’s Eve in Lijiang, first decide whether you want a flexible walk or a booked performance. Dayan Old Town works for dinner, lanes and a café; Mufu offers a story-led night walk; Lijiang Songcheng is a seated stage production with a specific session and ticket. Each can provide the main experience of the evening without adding a mountain day trip to a list of night-time attractions.

On a first visit, check in and leave your luggage before setting out. The hotel entrance, cobbled approach and restaurant location affect how comfortable the evening feels. If Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is also on your wish list, leave it a separate day rather than making a late New Year night depend on an early mountain departure.

Updated 8 October 2026. This guide compares ordinary evening experiences for a 2026–2027 New Year break; no official 31 December 2026 countdown or special session is verified. Sifang Street bonfire reporting refers to the night welcoming 2026. Mufu’s 2026 summer information and Songcheng’s standard product page do not establish the coming winter timetable.

Which Lijiang evening suits your trip?

Dayan: Sifang Street and Wuyi Street Independent walking and a relaxed meal Book dinner, with a short walk before or after Restaurant hours, hotel entrance and any current controls

Three Lijiang New Year choices: streets, a night tour and a show

    1. Dayan Old Town: Sifang Street, Wuyi Street and a proper dinner

Everyday Old Town evening; a bonfire was reported for the previous New Year

Dayan is a straightforward choice if the goal is a good meal and time to see the old streets after dark. Pick a short route around Sifang Street and Wuyi Street, stopping when a shop or café interests you. Arriving with some daylight lets you appreciate building details before dinner. Cultural courtyards have their own opening arrangements, so a lively street outside is not evidence that every interior remains open.

A local municipal-media report published on 1 January 2026 records bonfire dancing in Sifang Street as visitors welcomed that year. It supplies genuine seasonal history, but the next edition needs its own announcement and access information. Your dinner-and-walk plan should still work without waiting in the square for an unannounced midnight programme.

For a more settled dinner, consider the south side of the Old Town as the focus for both eating and sleeping. The InterContinental’s 7 Colors Chinese Restaurant lists Yunnan dishes and dinner service. Use it as a concrete option when comparing hotel dining with independent restaurants, while checking the table separately from the room. A room reservation does not establish a New Year banquet.

    • Access: ask the hotel for its legal vehicle drop-off point and actual walking approach. Sifang Street, the big waterwheel and the south gate are different pickup instructions.
    • Dinner: confirm 31 December reservations, last seating, set-menu requirements and deposits. A venue offering live music on an ordinary night does not automatically have a New Year event.
    • Costs: street walking, courtyard entry, food and performances are separate purchases. Be cautious about an unexplained “countdown pass” for ordinary public streets.
    • Leaving: agree a recognisable shop or junction as the meeting point, away from narrow bridges. A nearby room lets you finish early, subject to any temporary crowd routing.

    2. Mufu at night: a moving story among illuminated courtyards

Mufu is a good fit if you want a defined cultural experience to anchor the evening. The appeal is following the story through architectural spaces, watching how performers and lighting use the courtyards. The pace differs from a daytime visit and gives the evening more structure than a self-guided Old Town stroll. Visitors interested in local history can make it their only major programme that night.

A June 2026 interview with the operating team describes a night route drawing on Mu Zeng and Xu Xiake, with historic buildings, lighting, folk performance and interaction. Its summer start times, prices and seasonal offers are not carried into December here. Look specifically for a night-tour product with a confirmed date and session, then read the meeting, redemption, language and cancellation details.

Build dinner around that booking rather than looking for tickets after eating. If dining afterwards, confirm the restaurant’s last seating. Ask about walking, steps and opportunities to rest if anyone in the party needs them. This is an experience on the move, so comfortable footwear and layers matter more than squeezing in another café.

    • Ticket: ordinary daytime Mufu entry does not establish access to the night production. Choose a product explicitly labelled as a night tour and confirm its date and session before paying.
    • Arrival: follow the entrance, meeting time and validation instructions on your booking. Allow time to find the correct place instead of treating a published summer schedule as your reservation.
    • Dinner and hotel: the southern Old Town is worth comparing for an evening centred on Mufu, but check the actual route from the finish to the room.
    • Return: establish the tour’s exit before arranging a pickup. Ask the operator about the complete route if accessibility assistance is important.

    3. Lijiang Songcheng: a seated stage production on Yuxing West Road

Lijiang Songcheng suits visitors who want a full stage production and an assigned seating option. Lijiang Songcheng draws on local history and legends, including Naxi creation stories and the Tea Horse Road, combining dance with theatrical effects. The performance can be the purpose of the evening in its own right; a separate countdown is not needed to make the plan worthwhile.

The venue is on Yuxing West Road, separate from the Dayan walking area. Choose the date, session and seats before deciding how dinner and transport fit. An afternoon performance followed by a meal, or an early dinner before an evening session, is easier than repeated trips across town. Other park shows and food stalls have their own arrangements, so do not assume the main-show ticket keeps the whole park operating late.

Klook has an exact product for the Lijiang show, but the standard sessions displayed on a product page do not confirm 31 December operation. Compare the actual audience and VIP-seat packages, prepare the required identification and leave time for ticket collection and finding seats. Travellers sensitive to large-scale sound and lighting should check the format before booking.

    • Transport: use the actual Lijiang Songcheng entrance on Yuxing West Road. “Old Town” or “snow-mountain show” is not a sufficiently clear destination.
    • Booking: check the date, session, seat, original-ID requirements and amendment terms rather than choosing by the headline price. Meals and transport count only when the selected package includes them.
    • Return: arrange the journey to your hotel after the performance. If a shuttle is offered, verify the dated stops, last service and eligibility rather than relying on an old free-bus timetable.
    • Pacing: one main performance is enough for the evening. Add Mufu only if both confirmed sessions and the transfer leave comfortable margins.

Check Lijiang Songcheng dates, seats and packages on Klook. A standard show ticket does not confirm a special New Year programme; check the selected date and session.

A one- or two-night break: keep the evenings manageable

First visit: Old Town dinner and a slow next morning

Check in on 31 December, walk through Dayan in the afternoon and have a reserved dinner followed by a short stroll. Leave courtyard interiors for daylight on 1 January. If departing that day, work backwards from the train to baggage collection and station entry before choosing lunch.

A cultural evening centred on Mufu

Keep the arrival day close to the Old Town and place dinner around the confirmed night-tour session. Visit Shuhe or Baisha the next day if time permits, instead of crossing between areas repeatedly. On a one-night trip, an easy hotel approach is more useful than an extra town on the checklist.

A seated evening: Songcheng and a meal

Book an afternoon or evening performance that fits your dinner preference, with transport back arranged for the same day. If you have already walked a lot, shorten the Old Town visit and use the remaining time to rest.

Two nights: give the mountain a separate day

Keep Jade Dragon Snow Mountain as its own daytime plan, with room for wind, ticketing or road changes. Avoid making a dawn departure compulsory after a late night. See the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain guide for transport and booking decisions.

Connect dinner, the hotel and the final journey before paying

Choose accommodation by the last leg of your main evening. For Dayan and Mufu, compare the southern Old Town or an entrance with a manageable walk. If staying in Shuhe, include the post-dinner or post-show car journey in the plan. “Ancient Town” in a hotel name does not place it beside Sifang Street; check the actual address, room orientation and nearby businesses if quiet sleep matters. The Lijiang hotel guide covers detailed location and room trade-offs.

The InterContinental on the southern side is an option for hotel dining and an overnight in the same area, useful when you prefer to keep the meal and room close together. Check the exact room, walking entrance, restaurant reservation and cancellation terms separately. A scenic room photograph is not evidence of a fireworks view.

For either an independent restaurant or hotel dinner, ask about the 31 December menu, last seating, table-use period, deposit and any dietary needs. A pre-show meal needs time for payment and the walk or drive afterwards. For a post-show reservation, agree an achievable arrival time rather than simply telling the restaurant you will come when the performance ends.

Use the Lijiang local transport guide for Dayan, Shuhe and Baisha, then ask your accommodation to confirm the legal night-time pickup point. Ordinary buses, attraction shuttles and hired cars have different rules; an unverified midnight service should not be the basis of the return. If coming from Dali, the Dali–Lijiang transport guide helps plan the arrival transfer and luggage.

Bring a warm outer layer and footwear suitable for the stone lanes, keeping the outdoor route easy to shorten. Mountain operations are a separate issue: official local winter-preparation reporting in 2026 explicitly includes possible ropeway suspension in strong winds. Keep that excursion on its own day and do not treat an evening city-show booking as assurance that the mountain plan will operate.

    Lijiang New Year’s Eve questions

Is a Sifang Street bonfire countdown confirmed this time?
No 31 December 2026 session has been announced. The 1 January 2026 report describes the previous night. Build a workable dinner-and-walk evening, then add a programme only if a new announcement confirms it.
Can I stay for the night tour with a daytime Mufu ticket?
Do not assume so. The selected product needs to state the night experience, date and session. Ordinary entry and the immersive night production should be checked separately.
Should I choose Mufu or Songcheng on a first visit?
Choose Mufu for a moving experience through architectural spaces, or Songcheng for seating and a larger stage production. There is no need to fit both into one evening; connect one of them properly with dinner and the hotel.
Can I stay in Shuhe and spend the evening in Dayan?
Yes, with a planned car journey and final walk. If both dinner and Mufu are in Dayan, staying nearby removes a late transfer. A Shuhe stay works better when you arrange the return rather than deciding after dinner.
Must I see the mountain at sunrise on New Year’s Day?
No. Cloud, sunlight and mountain operation vary, and an early start after a late evening reduces rest. A separate mountain day based on the weather and actual reservations gives the trip more flexibility.
Does a standard Songcheng ticket include a New Year celebration?
Only the selected package’s stated inclusions count. Do not infer a midnight programme, meal or return transfer from ordinary show admission; verify the dated booking before payment.
