Lijiang to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain: choose the visit first
Head to Baisha’s new visitor centre for the scenic train. If your admission and transfer are already booked, use that booking’s meeting point instead; not everyone needs a Baisha detour. Decide between Glacier Park’s main cableway, Yunshanping and Blue Moon Valley, since each itinerary uses a different combination of internal transport and tickets.
Three practical ways to organise the journey
| Option | Journey | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Scenic train | Hotel → Baisha Visitor Centre station → Ganhaizi | Visitors who want the rail experience and can arrange separate connections |
| Taxi or private transfer | Vehicle-accessible hotel pickup → agreed scenic-area meeting point | Groups and travellers wanting fewer city transfers |
| Day trip with transport | Named meeting point → listed attractions → agreed return | A coordinated itinerary with clearly stated ticket inclusions |
Driving from the city to the scenic area takes about 80 minutes as a planning reference, before cableway queues. This is not the scenic-train ride time. Agree on the actual drop-off with the driver and ticket provider, especially when traffic controls apply.
Where to board the scenic train
The train starts at Visitor Centre station in the new Baisha centre, at 1 Yugan Road, and ends at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain station at Ganhaizi’s Xuechuan visitor port. It does not leave from Lijiang’s national railway station. From an old-town guesthouse, arrange a pickup on an accessible road and travel to Baisha first.
At Ganhaizi, continue by the scenic-area transport required for your chosen cableway or attraction. A train ticket is not a Glacier Park cableway reservation, and admission is included only when the selected package says so. Use the departures sold for your travel date rather than the launch-week timetable from February 2025.
The scenic train takes about 30 minutes, plus the hotel journey, waiting and onward transfers at Ganhaizi. Standard fares listed from July 2026 are CNY50 one way or CNY80 return; the separate July–August promotional bundles have ended. Use the 玉龙雪山服务 (Yulong Snow Mountain Service) or 雪山火车 (Snow Mountain Train) WeChat mini-program to choose the tickets and departure for your date.
Budget for admission and transport separately
| Item | May 2026 published amount | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Scenic admission | CNY100 per adult | Standard admission; eligible reductions are separate |
| Internal sightseeing bus | CNY20 per person | Shuttle transport between scenic points |
| Train, cableways and local electric carts | Purchased separately as selected | Additional services, unless expressly included in a bundle |
For a visitor paying the full rate, allow CNY120 for admission and the internal bus, then add the city transfer and any cableway or scenic-train rides. Holiday bundles apply only on their stated dates, so do not use an expired promotion as your general budget.
Walk-up tickets and advance bookings use different instructions
Ordinary on-site reservation sales moved to Baisha in January 2026, while the former southwest gate mainly handles ticket checks. Travellers arriving without an advance reservation should plan around the Baisha ticket service; special-category assistance follows the authority’s arrangements. An already-booked road journey should follow its own check-in instructions and current vehicle controls, rather than automatically adding the train.
Build the morning around the cableway reservation
Decide whether your priority is Glacier Park or a meadow-and-valley visit before buying transport. The drive is only the first stage: ticket validation, waiting and internal transfers all come before a timed cableway check-in. Keep the return route equally clear, especially if you plan to linger in Blue Moon Valley. Leave large bags at your accommodation when possible.
The Klook link below is for scenic-train ticket options. It is relevant if you have chosen the Baisha rail route; it is not a universal mountain-day package or a reason to add an unnecessary train ride to an existing road transfer.
Check cableway operating notices before leaving. Strong winds can suspend a cableway while other parts of the scenic area remain open. Changes or refunds depend on the unused components and the original seller’s terms.
Frequently asked questions
Is Baisha Old Town the train boarding point?
Use the specific new visitor centre and Visitor Centre station, rather than a general Baisha Old Town pin. They are not interchangeable meeting places.
Does a Spruce Meadow and Blue Moon Valley tour include Glacier Park?
Only if its selected option names the Glacier Park cableway and the required reservation. These are different attractions and ticket combinations.
Can I return by car after buying a return scenic-train ticket?
You can arrange another permitted journey, but any refund for the unused rail leg depends on your ticket conditions. A holiday-bundle refund rule is not a rule for all tickets.
