The southern Old Town setting avoids adding a Shuhe-to-Dayan car journey every evening. It also gives you a practical arrival address on Xianghe Road rather than a meeting point somewhere inside the lanes.

Deluxe King and Deluxe Twin rooms measure about 45m²; the Premium King is about 60m². These categories accommodate two guests, not four adults simply because there are twin beds. An indoor pool, gym and restaurants make downtime worthwhile. Breakfast, club access and spa treatments depend on the package you choose.
Use 276 Xianghe Road for arrival and check in before exploring on foot. The courtyard layout still involves movement inside the property. Ask about steps, the assigned floor and luggage assistance if anyone needs a step-free route.
Choose it over Indigo if the pool and broader resort facilities matter. Choose a room away from event spaces and busy passages if you sleep lightly; an Old Town-edge location alone does not guarantee silence.
2. Hotel Indigo LIJIANG ANCIENT TOWN by IHG
Indigo suits a couple who wants the Old Town outside the door and a distinctively designed room to return to. Its Tea Horse Road references work particularly well if the hotel is part of the trip rather than somewhere you merely sleep. It shares the southern Dayan area with InterContinental, but offers a different scale and emphasis.

Standard King and Twin rooms are about 50m², with a king bed or two singles. Larger categories are about 62m², while the open-plan suite is about 68m². Interiors vary, so match the room name to its photographs instead of assuming a suite image represents the starting category.
The address is 111 Xingwen Lane, Qiyi Street. Guest parking is available at the neighbouring InterContinental parking area. Confirm where to unload and meet the Indigo team, especially after dark: parking access does not mean a car can enter every Old Town lane.
Choose Indigo for room design and walking access to Dayan. If a pool is essential, compare InterContinental directly; do not build your booking around assumed free use of neighbouring hotel facilities.
3. Lijiang Palace Hotel
Palace Hotel is an Old Town courtyard choice for travellers who want to spend their days around southern Dayan rather than commuting back to a resort near Shuhe. Its strongest practical distinction is the two-bedroom family inventory, which is more useful to a group than a vague promise of a spacious twin room.

The 90–110m² family suite also has two bedrooms and a four-person listing. Check your actual adult/child mix and breakfast allowance before paying.
Use 9 Yigu Lane, Nanmen Street, and agree a meeting point from the South Gate side. Confirm the paving, luggage help and any stairs between reception and the assigned room rather than rolling bags across Dayan first.
Choose it for the courtyard setting and separate family bedrooms. If an indoor pool matters more, compare InterContinental or Hilton. Traditional architecture alone does not tell you how quiet an individual room will be.
4. Amandayan
Amandayan is a Lion Hill retreat for travellers who deliberately leave time to enjoy the hotel. We would shortlist it for a special occasion or an unhurried stay, rather than an itinerary that leaves the suite empty from dawn to midnight. The elevated courtyard setting is its main distinction from southern Dayan hotels.

Courtyard and Deluxe suites are both about 72m² with a king bed. Decide by floor, terrace and outlook as well as size. The 440m² two-bedroom villa has two king bedrooms and a listed capacity of four. Facilities include an outdoor pool, spa and gym; outdoor use depends on conditions. The pool is currently listed for adults only; confirm child-access rules before booking a family stay.
Use 29 Shishan Road and confirm the vehicle entrance before arrival. A short pedestrian route through Dayan is not necessarily a taxi route. Remember the return uphill after exploring, particularly if stairs or inclines are difficult for anyone in your party.
Choose Amandayan over Indigo for a suite-led hotel experience and hillside setting. For frequent, easier trips in and out of Dayan, start with the South Gate choices. Neither mountain visibility nor a particular view is guaranteed by the hotel name.
5. Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa
Pullman works best when Shuhe is your everyday base and Dayan is an outing, rather than an evening commute. The resort sits on the Shuhe approach off Xiangjiang Road. Its range of conventional rooms and much larger villas gives couples and groups distinctly different ways to stay.

Deluxe King and Twin rooms are about 42m². The 358m² two-bedroom jet-pool villa and 368m² duplex two-bedroom villa each have a king bedroom and twin bedroom, with a listed capacity of four. Treat villa area as the scale of the whole product, not equivalent indoor bedroom space. A private-pool villa photograph does not describe the 42m² room.
Give the driver the Pullman entrance on the north side of Xiangjiang Road, rather than simply “Shuhe”. Arriving at the hotel and walking around the ancient town are separate parts of the journey. For a group transfer, confirm luggage space as well as seats.
Choose it over Banyan Tree when you want a conventional room option as well as villas. For regular indoor swimming, compare Jinmao Purelax before deciding.
6. Banyan Tree Lijiang
Banyan Tree is for a stay in which the hotel gets a meaningful share of your time: a slow breakfast, a courtyard afternoon and perhaps no trip to Dayan after dinner. Its Shuhe address and private-garden accommodation make it a resort decision rather than simply an upgraded Old Town bedroom.

Mountain View King suites are about 99m²; Garden King suites are about 136m². The 228m² two-bedroom mountain-view duplex has a king bedroom and queen bedroom, with capacity listed for four. The 326m² jet-pool villas and 372m² pool villas are separate categories. Do not infer pool temperature, swimming space or private-pool access from a general resort photograph.
Use 34 Longquan Road, Shuhe, and arrange transport to the hotel itself. A single night between arriving from Dali and catching an early train may leave little time to enjoy the grounds, once the cross-city transfers are included.
Choose it over Pullman when suites, private gardens or villas are the priority. Decide which type of outdoor space you actually want before comparing the much larger headline floor areas.
7. Jinmao Purelax Lijiang, The Unbound Collection By HYATT
Jinmao Purelax is a useful Shuhe-side choice when you want a generous regular room and an indoor pool without committing to a private villa. Listings may also use Jinmao Hotel Lijiang or the current Chinese name Jinmao Yinyi. The address, 8 Xiangjiang Road, is the important identifier.

Deluxe rooms are about 62m², with a queen bed or two singles. Prestige King suites are about 93–99m². The specifically named 125m² two-bedroom connecting category lists four-person capacity; a regular twin room does not establish the same. Lake-view and snow-mountain categories are distinct, so choose the outlook explicitly if it matters.
This is the city-side Jinmao hotel, not Jinmao Pureal Mountain at Ganhaizi. Check the address on every booking and transfer. “Gucheng District” is an administrative address, not a promise that Sifang Street is a short walk away. Plan a ride for Dayan outings.
Choose it over Pullman for large regular rooms and indoor swimming. It is also the more practical Jinmao base when city meals and onward travel remain central to your itinerary.
8. Hylla Vintage Hotel (LHW Group)
Hylla is a design-led retreat built around courtyards, landscaped grounds and collectible furniture. Its location in Yanjiao Village makes most sense when you want the Baisha side of Lijiang to shape the trip. It is a less natural fit for repeated late dinners and nightlife in Dayan.

Garden View King and Twin rooms are about 60–65m², with a king bed or two singles. Upgraded garden categories are about 60–75m². Snow Mountain View King is a separate category, not a feature you can assume from the general gallery. These rooms are listed for two guests.
Use the full address: 99 Yanjiao Village, Baisha. Arrange arrival at the hotel pin and consider the return journey before leaving for dinner. A Baisha-area address is not the same as a room on the historic main street, and on-demand transport may involve waiting.
Choose Hylla over a larger Shuhe resort for design and garden time. Reserve an unhurried afternoon for the property; a schedule packed with sightseeing leaves less reason to choose this particular base.
9. Hilton Lijiang
Hilton is the modern, road-accessed alternative to a courtyard stay. Its Huangshan Town setting above Wenbi Lake suits families using transfers, travellers who want an indoor pool and groups seeking a specifically bookable connecting arrangement. You visit Dayan from here rather than live among its lanes.

Deluxe King rooms are about 50m². Deluxe Twin rooms have two double beds but list two-person capacity, so the beds alone do not establish room for four adults. Courtyard King rooms are about 66m². The 100m² Family Connecting Rooms category has two king beds and one single, with capacity listed for five; request that exact product. The indoor pool is currently listed for adults only: families should establish child-access rules before booking.
Arrive at 2 Xiahe Road, Huangshan Town. This is a road journey from Lijiang Railway Station, not station accommodation you should plan to walk to with bags. Arrange an early departure car and keep time for luggage collection and station formalities.
Choose it over Palace for the indoor pool and larger-hotel setup. If walking out for Dayan meals matters every day, the southern Old Town choices are more convenient.
10. Jinmao Pureal Mountain Lijiang, a Member of Design Hotels
Pureal Mountain belongs to a separate part of the itinerary: an overnight stay at Ganhaizi inside the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain scenic area. It suits travellers who want to return in the afternoon and spend time at the hotel. It is not a convenient substitute for a city base with spontaneous Dayan dinners.

Mountain Queen and Twin suites are about 86m², with a queen bed or two singles. The executive suite is about 134m². A 243m² two-bedroom villa lists four-person capacity. Snow cover, cloud and visibility in the photographs describe the shoot, not the conditions on your travel dates.
Confirm scenic-area admission, the allowance for every guest, ticket collection and the transfer schedule before arrival. Current hotel instructions route guests via the city-side Jinmao Purelax for ticket collection and the mountain transfer; some rates exclude admission. Hotel access is separate from cable-car tickets and sightseeing reservations.
Choose it for a dedicated mountain-resort night. Keep a city night before an early train or after a late arrival. The booking should also suit your own comfort with the mountain location, rather than relying on a brand or room category as reassurance.
Getting from Lijiang’s airport or station to your hotel
After landing or arriving at Lijiang Railway Station, give the driver the full Chinese hotel address and the vehicle entrance. The easily overlooked part is the last stretch: paving, turns, steps and courtyard passages. In wet weather the stone lanes can be slippery. For large suitcases, a stroller or limited mobility, agree the handover point before the journey starts.
- Southern Dayan: check in at the hotel’s designated approach, leave luggage, then explore. Do not start dragging bags across the Old Town from the waterwheel simply because that is the landmark you recognise.
- Lion Hill: separate the vehicle route from the pedestrian shortcut, and remember the uphill return.
- Shuhe and Baisha: plan both the outward and return car journey for evenings in another area. Straight-line map distances are not journey times.
- Ganhaizi: establish ticket collection, transfers and arrival windows before planning the airport-to-hotel route.
For a sightseeing day, read Lijiang to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and match the departure point to your hotel. A hotel reservation, scenic-area admission and a cable-car booking are separate parts of the day.
A sensible plan for two or three nights
For two nights, keep one base. Stay near southern Dayan for Old Town time or near Shuhe for a resort-led stay, then visit the other area. With a third night, Baisha or Ganhaizi can add a different experience if you will actually use the new setting. Changing hotels solely for a hoped-for mountain photograph creates luggage work without guaranteeing the view.
Place late arrivals and early departures beside the easiest transfer, rather than booking a famous hotel first and forcing the route around it. For a family or multigenerational group, include the time from room to vehicle, not only the drive shown on a map.

1. Is Dayan or Shuhe better for a first visit?
Start with southern Dayan if walking out for meals and Old Town sightseeing shapes each day. Choose Shuhe or Xiangjiang Road when you want resort time and Shuhe walks. They are separate bases, so let your repeated daily activities decide.
2. Are Dayan, Shuhe and Baisha the same Old Town?
They are separate historic settlements within the wider Lijiang heritage story. Hotel searches often use “Lijiang Old Town” to mean Dayan. An address in Gucheng District is not proof of a location inside Dayan; check the actual street and hotel entrance.
3. Can a taxi reach my Old Town hotel door?
It depends on the property entrance and current traffic arrangements. InterContinental uses Xianghe Road; Indigo needs an agreed luggage handover near its parking arrangement; Palace is approached from the South Gate side. Ask for a vehicle pin, not only a pedestrian route.
4. Does staying in Shuhe or Baisha guarantee quiet?

6. Which hotels should swimmers compare?
InterContinental, Jinmao Purelax and Hilton have indoor pools; Amandayan has an outdoor pool. The pools at Hilton and Amandayan are listed for adults, so ask about child access before booking a family stay. At Banyan Tree, private swimming and jet pools are included only with particular villa categories.
7. Are Jinmao Purelax and Jinmao Pureal Mountain the same hotel?
No. Purelax is at 8 Xiangjiang Road on the city side; Pureal Mountain is at Ganhaizi in the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain scenic area. A transfer connection does not make them interchangeable. Check both the name and address before paying or arranging transport.
