Citygate Outlets’ SPARK★TACULAR CHRISTMAS in 2025 brought Christopher David Ryan’s BIG HUGS characters to the ground floor, second-floor atrium and footbridge. Santa, stars, a giant shared scarf and recorded stories formed a route through the mall rather than one conventional tree or a scheduled stage spectacular.
The campaign ran from 13 November 2025 to 4 January 2026. This guide recalls that edition’s installations and participation conditions, not a new Christmas 2026 programme.
Three different sets of opening hours
| Historical element | Hours | Location |
|---|---|---|
| BIG HUGS installations | Daily 11:00–22:00 | Ground floor near MLB G01B, 2/F Atrium and footbridge |
| All You Knit Is LOVE message experience | Daily 12:00–19:00 | 2/F Atrium |
| Phone-a-STAR digital experience | Daily 12:00–19:00 | 2/F Atrium and footbridge |
| Cupping Room themed restaurant | Daily 09:00–20:00 | Shop 263, 2/F |
The installations, digital experiences and café had different hours. Arriving after 19:00 could still suit a look at the installations, but not the same digital experience or redemption plan. The café also did not remain open until the display’s 22:00 finish.
Seven zones from Santa to the starry bridge
| Historical scene | Location and feature |
|---|---|
| STAR Wish Santa | Ground floor near MLB G01B; 2.5-metre BIG HUGS Santa |
| STARRY Arch of Love | Welcoming character arch in the 2/F Atrium |
| STARLIGHT Ride-around | Interactive bicycle with stars and music in the atrium |
| Knit a HUG | Four-metre hugging figures sharing a large scarf |
| Stars on the Way | Character trail and phone booths around the atrium |
| HUG FOR LOVE | Charity-linked hugging interaction |
| STARLIT Avenue | 2/F footbridge with moon, stars and cloud-shaped photo setting |
The 2025 setting included an approximately 23-metre scarf and nearly 80 stars on the bridge. Four metres refers to the hugging installation, not a Christmas tree. The 2.5-metre Santa was a character installation, not a daily live Santa appointment.
From a ground-floor entrance, a natural order was Santa, the second-floor atrium and then the bridge. Anyone prioritising the digital activities instead needed to work around their 19:00 finish rather than insist on a particular photographic route.
Participation conditions were not interchangeable
The 2025 bicycle activity required CLUB CG membership or prospective-member registration plus qualifying same-day single electronic spending for the bicycle interaction. Its mall location did not make it an unrestricted free ride.
The message board required following designated social accounts. Phone-gift redemption required three recordings, a redemption QR code and membership or prospective-member registration. These were separate conditions, not one universal pass covering every activity.
For a viewing-only visit, the characters and starry bridge could remain the focus. For games or souvenirs, understanding the individual process mattered more than treating every QR code as an ordinary information sign.
Phone booths offered recordings, not celebrity appearances
The historical recordings featured Jay Fung, DJ Chu Fun, badminton athlete Calista Lam Tsz Huen, creator Jon Jon and artist CDR. Four booths formed part of the atrium route, with the fifth on the second-floor bridge.
The booths played recorded stories and greetings. These were not five live meet-and-greets, and booth hours should not be turned into a performance schedule for the contributors.
Listening added a slower element to a visit otherwise centred on visual installations. Companions who preferred not to use phone-based interactions could simply enjoy the characters and bridge instead of treating every digital step as compulsory.
Who funded the charity contribution?
For HUG FOR LOVE, the historical arrangement had the mall donate HK$1 per designated hug to Ronald McDonald House Charities Hong Kong. Members could separately convert points into donations. This was not a HK$1 admission fee, nor an automatic deduction of every member’s points.
Hand-warmer cushions, Venchi chocolate gifts and shopping vouchers belonged to separate points or spending promotions. Viewing, charitable interaction and shopping rewards were different choices; “Christmas gifts” did not mean unconditional souvenirs for every visitor.
Where the themed café fitted into the day
During the historical collaboration, Cupping Room at Shop 263 used BIG HUGS decorations and a seasonal menu with winter drinks and food. Its 09:00–20:00 hours started before the installations and ended earlier too.
An early Tung Chung arrival could begin with breakfast or coffee before an 11:00 display visit. An afternoon digital visit needed completion before 19:00, followed by a decision about dining before the café’s historical 20:00 closing. The collaboration cup was a limited spending-based promotion, not an automatic accompaniment to every drink.
Tung Chung Exit C, with separate airport and bridge-port buses
Use Tung Chung Station Exit C to reach Citygate Outlets. Within the mall, the historical Santa installation stood near ground-floor MLB G01B; the main route continued through the second-floor atrium and bridge rather than remaining in one corner.
S1 or S64 from Hong Kong International Airport takes approximately ten minutes; B6 from the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port takes approximately fifteen minutes. These approximate bus journeys exclude waiting, immigration, baggage collection and walking. They are not the time needed to leave an installation and reach an aircraft gate.
For cross-border travel, the Hong Kong–Zhuhai guide and Hong Kong–Macau guide cover the separate journey. B6 should not be mistaken for the entire international crossing.
A dedicated outing or an addition to shopping?
For an existing Tung Chung shopping day or a stay around the airport or Lantau, the distributed installations were easy to add. Someone seeking a large outdoor light performance should not assume a star-themed campaign necessarily offered one.
Compare the experience with the Hong Kong Christmas guide and use your hotel location to assess the cross-city journey. Without an existing shopping plan, deciding whether the characters and digital activities appealed was more useful than studying the maximum voucher reward.
