Tsim Sha Tsui East’s Christmas lights are a neighbourhood streetscape, not one enclosed ticketed venue. Footbridges, a garden canopy, overhead street lights and building façades create different ways to experience the area. The 43rd edition in 2025 featured Ferris-wheel and gift-conveyor designs on three Mody Road footbridges, plus a new canopy in the Urban Council Centenary Garden.

This guide reviews the completed Christmas 2025 and early-2026 displays. As of 22 October 2026, full new-season details are still to come; these designs are not promised for late 2026.

The 2025 ceremony was cancelled, not the entire lighting season

The switch-on ceremony planned for 27 November 2025 was cancelled following the Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po. The lights were subsequently activated without a ceremony. Early promotional dates therefore should not be treated automatically as actual opening dates, and the ceremony cancellation did not mean the whole lighting season was cancelled.

Buildings and installations had their own dates, and the district lighting and individual façade programmes did not all finish together.

    Historical element Historical timing
Overall 43rd-edition illuminations Ceremony cancelled on 27 November 2025; lights later activated without ceremony; separate dates applied to the installations
Windows of Wonder at Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre 13 December 2025–4 January 2026, 6pm–11pm
Other district lighting Some arrangements ended on 1 January 2026; not everything can be extended to 4 January

Three Mody Road footbridges: Ferris wheels and gifts

Three footbridges were decorated with Ferris-wheel and gift-conveyor imagery, creating a Christmas-factory visual story. These were lighting motifs, not rides that visitors could board.

Their appeal comes from the sequence of bridges within the streetscape rather than a single grand entrance. View them from safe pedestrian positions, allowing people to continue using the pavement and bridges rather than stopping in the roadway for a complete frame.

Centenary Garden: a canopy rather than a distant façade

The large installation introduced in the Urban Council Centenary Garden in 2025 used interwoven lights to suggest a glowing canopy. It complemented the nearby bridges but offered a closer garden experience, unlike looking towards a large building façade.

For a shorter outing, combine the garden and nearby footbridges before deciding whether to continue to Mody Lane and the waterfront. The garden setting does not establish a daily Christmas market: do not assume stalls or stage programmes run every day.

Mody Lane and Mody Road are different stops

Mody Lane’s 2025 overhead display used a wishing-star concept. The past edition used more than 200,000 hanging beads and eight-pointed stars. Visitors walked beneath this display, while Mody Road’s Ferris wheels decorated the footbridges.

The distinction matters when navigating. For overhead stars, find Mody Lane; for the bridge designs, follow Mody Road. They can be combined in one walk, but their similar names do not mean every photographed scene occupies the same spot.

Windows of Wonder on the waterfront buildings

The 2025 Windows of Wonder programme used the approximately 4,000-square-metre Sino LuminArt Façade at Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre. Selected public photographs were transformed through AI animation into festive imagery. This was a digital work on building exteriors, not an indoor projection room in the garden.

Early photo-submission publicity advertised a planned 27 November opening. The later arrangements ran from 13 December through 4 January 2026. Do not use a photo-submission deadline or the original planned opening as the final display calendar.

Look towards the two building façades from the public waterfront area; a restaurant reservation is not required to see exterior lights. A seated meal with a view is a separate purchase. The reported 6pm–11pm lighting window did not mean one animation played continuously, and it was not the timetable of the separate A Symphony of Lights programme.

Nearby hotel trees were another layer of the historical route

The same season also brought a Christmas tree and oversized gift boxes in Kowloon Shangri-La’s lobby, a lobby tree at Regal Kowloon Hotel, and snowflake lights on The Royal Garden’s exterior. These help explain why the area offered more than overhead street lighting.

Hotel lobbies are not public pavements. Follow venue rules and guest circulation requirements, and do not assume historical decorations remain in place or that every hotel guarantees unrestricted photography by non-guests. For a straightforward outdoor walk, the garden, bridges, lane and waterfront already offer distinct experiences.

Getting there: P2 for the garden, P1 for the waterfront buildings

The MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui street map identifies East Tsim Sha Tsui Exit P2 for the Urban Council Centenary Garden and P1 for Tsim Sha Tsui Centre. The property’s arrival directions estimate approximately two minutes from P1 to the building. That is not the duration of the entire lighting trail.

A practical suggested walk begins at P2, covers the garden and Mody Road bridges, follows street signs to Mody Lane, and finishes around Tsim Sha Tsui Centre, Empire Centre and the waterfront. This is one suggested walk, not a designated one-way route; follow any temporary crowd-management arrangements instead.

Tsim Sha Tsui and East Tsim Sha Tsui are connected by pedestrian passages, but their exits are spread out. “Immediately outside Tsim Sha Tsui Station” is not a useful description of every installation. Choose the P1 or P2 direction first, especially with children or a stroller. Compare other districts in the Hong Kong Christmas guide rather than automatically squeezing West Kowloon and Causeway Bay into the same evening.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is the late-2026 programme announced?

Full new-season details are still to come. The Ferris-wheel bridges, canopy and Windows of Wonder described here are historical 2025 attractions.

Did the lights operate after the 2025 ceremony cancellation?

Yes. They were later activated without a ceremony.

Are Mody Lane and Mody Road the same photo spot?

No. The lane featured overhead stars, while the road’s three footbridges carried separate lighting motifs.

Did every installation continue until 4 January 2026?

That cannot be assumed. The date belongs to reporting on the specific building-façade programme.

Which exit is the clearest starting point?

Use P2 for the garden, or P1 when starting with Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre.
