Separate Dayan Old Town, Shuhe and Baisha when planning Lijiang transport. Walk inside the old-town areas and compare buses, tourist services or cars between them. Leave large bags at your accommodation when possible: stone paving, steps and pedestrian restrictions can make the final approach harder than the drive.
Non-official geographic map showing Dayan, Shuhe and Baisha from south to north. Towns, roads and rail infrastructure provide area context, not current bus services, pickup gates or drivable lanes. Baisha old town should not be treated as the boarding station for the snow-mountain sightseeing train.

Match transport to the area
| Area | Approach | Save first |
|---|---|---|
| Dayan Old Town | Vehicle or bus to an outer entrance, then walking | The hotel’s accessible entrance, not automatically the big waterwheel |
| Shuhe | Bus or car to the appropriate side | South gate, northern Wenming Village approach and hotel location |
| Baisha | Compare a local bus, tourist service or car | The actual arrival and return boarding points |
| Shuhe plus Baisha in one day | Progress northwards, then return once | Meal breaks and final transport home |
| Airport or railway station | A separate arrival/departure arrangement | A sightseeing charter may exclude pickup there |
A café-and-dining visit inside Dayan needs little transport. Taking a car for every move first requires walking out to a road. If staying in Shuhe, combine Shuhe and Baisha before making a separate Dayan visit.
Buses to Shuhe and Baisha
Use a boarding point you can actually reach from your hotel. For Baisha, compare route 6 and the Baisha scenic-area tourist service, then check the current operating day, stops and fare. Different services may start around Xiangshan Market or the old-town entrance.
Confirm whether the bus reaches Shuhe’s south gate, its northern approach or Baisha. An outer stop may still leave a walk, and the return stop may not be directly opposite. Save a separate return pin before sightseeing.
Ordinary buses and tourist services can differ in payment, concessions and reservations. Prepare a working local travel code and another accepted method. Taiwan’s EasyCard and an ordinary Hong Kong Octopus should not be assumed to work.
Tourist loops and the snow-mountain train
A tourist loop links the Shuhe/Baisha area with the snow-mountain sightseeing-train visitor centre. It may fit an existing mountain day, but check current service days, direction and last departure. An opening-season news timetable is not a permanent schedule.
The sightseeing train is specialised tourist transport, not a city metro connecting every old-town destination. You still need access from the hotel and the onward attraction connection. Use our Jade Dragon Snow Mountain guide for that separate trip.
When a car is worthwhile
A car can reduce waiting for a small group, older companions or luggage. A single taxi suits one move; a half- or full-day charter can be worth comparing for several stops with flexible visiting time.
Specify the actual entrances, hotel pickup, final drop-off and required hours. Ask about parking, distance limits, overtime, driver versus guide service, child seats and luggage capacity.
Klook’s Lijiang city charter offers half- and full-day options with different vehicles. Product information separates city sightseeing from airport and railway-station pickup, so do not assume an arrival transfer is included. Confirm any plan extending to the snow mountain, Tiger Leaping Gorge or Shangri-La.
Plan luggage before the drive
Ask an old-town guesthouse for its nearest accessible road, remaining steps, luggage assistance and evening meeting point. A hotel map pin alone may leave you facing a long paved-lane walk after the car stops.
If changing hotels while visiting Shuhe or Baisha, confirm whether luggage can stay in the booked vehicle and keep valuables with you. For buses, light luggage is easier. Do not build a day around unconfirmed storage.
Returning from Baisha
Café hours do not establish the last bus time. Check the return before leaving and allow time to walk back to the stop. For an evening stay, arrange a car or leave enough flexibility for ride-hailing.
Arrival at Dayan’s edge still leaves the walk to your room. Wet paving deserves an unhurried approach. See Dali to Lijiang and Lijiang to Shangri-La for onward journeys, and the Lijiang accommodation guide for practical base choices.
Frequently asked questions
Can a driver reach my Dayan guesthouse door?
It depends on road access. Ask the property for a legal drop-off point and walking instructions.
Are Shuhe’s north and south entrances interchangeable?
No. They change the walk to your hotel or first sight. Use the full entrance name for pickups and meetings.
Does a city charter include airport pickup?
Do not assume so. The linked Klook city product excludes airport and railway-station pickup; verify the exact selected option.
Can I find a bus after finishing Baisha dinner?
Check first. Public transport may finish earlier than restaurants, making an arranged return more suitable.
