Panlong’s winter outing is for visitors who want a water-town setting as well as festive decorations. Bridges and reflections are part of the experience, rather than scenery hidden behind a temporary display. With skating or market browsing added, it works better as a half-day destination than a special trip for one tree photograph.
This guide covers the completed 27 November 2025–11 January 2026 winter season. Its water-based wishing tree, markets and skating programme are historical. As of 22 October 2026, complete details for the new season are still to come.
Panlong Tiandi and Panlong Xintiandi: identify the right place
Both names may appear in maps and tourism material for the Qingpu destination discussed here. Add “Panlong Road station” when searching. Central Shanghai Xintiandi and Hongqiao Xintiandi are different places, despite the shared name.
| Name | Role in this guide | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Panlong Tiandi / Panlong Xintiandi | The water-town-style precinct | Not central Shanghai Xintiandi |
| Ice and Fire winter season | The historical 2025–26 programme | Not a permanent attraction |
| Panlong Water Market and East Market Bonfire Market | Two components of the seasonal outing | Not proof of identical daily operation |
| Outdoor real-ice rink | A historical winter activity | Separate conditions from viewing a tree |
The precinct has substantial public green space and natural waterways. In practical terms, allow time to move between areas rather than expecting every experience in one compact atrium.
What made the 2025 setting distinctive
The season ran from 27 November 2025 to 11 January 2026, with the water-based wishing tree, Panlong Water Market, East Market Bonfire Market and an outdoor real-ice rink of roughly 1,000 square metres.
The tree is best understood in relation to the bridges, waterside buildings and reflections. Arriving before dark lets you learn the street layout, then return to the waterfront as the setting changes. Wind and water movement affect reflections, so a publicity image is not a guaranteed view on every evening.
Treat the two markets as different stopping points within one visit, not two separate dinner commitments. Look at the actual open stalls before choosing where to buy a drink or snack. Vendors and menus may vary by day, so do not count on a particular brand or dish being available throughout the season.
Separate the season, lighting and skating calendars
| Question | Historical arrangements | What remains separate |
|---|---|---|
| Overall season | 27 November 2025–11 January 2026 | Daily opening of each component |
| January continuation | The season continued until 11 January | A new Christmas season in December 2026 |
| Waterfront display | A water-based wishing tree | A complete daily switch-on timetable |
| Markets and skating | Both formed part of the winter programme | Sessions, admission and individual operating hours |
The past edition allowed on-site participation, which does not mean every activity was free. Keep a precinct walk, skating session and food purchase separate when budgeting. Check what an advertised price actually includes rather than treating it as admission to the whole destination.
For skating-led visits, establish operation, session length, equipment hire, child eligibility and accompanying-adult rules before arranging dinner. If you only want the waterside scene and a meal, there is no reason to buy a sports package merely because it appears beside the seasonal display in an advertisement.
Metro line 17 and the final walk
From Panlong Road station on line 17, use Exit 2 and follow Panlong Road to the south entrance. An alternative approach uses Exit 3 and a pedestrian bridge. These are precinct approaches, not a promise about a seasonal ticket gate or step-free access.
From the Hongqiao hub area, compare the line 17 journey. From central Shanghai, include both the transfer and the walk after leaving the train. Set your initial destination to the precinct’s south entrance, then use the actual event map for the tree and markets rather than treating one shop pin as the entire festival entrance.
For the return, account for the walk back to the station and any onward transfer. One line’s final departure does not guarantee that every connection remains possible. Start with the Shanghai transport guide and check the day’s station information.
A half-day here, or combine it with Zhujiajiao?
A focused Panlong plan begins with an afternoon walk and an unhurried meal, adds a market or skating activity, and returns to the waterfront for the festive setting. If only part of your group skates, agree on a meeting point and a separate activity for the others rather than leaving everyone waiting at the rink entrance.
Zhujiajiao is another Qingpu destination, but being in the same district does not make the two adjacent. Decide whether you want a deeper old-town visit or Panlong’s combination of contemporary dining and seasonal scenes. The Shanghai-to-Zhujiajiao transport guide helps compare the extra movement before combining them.
| Group or priority | Useful plan | Avoidable burden |
|---|---|---|
| Couple or friends | Afternoon streets, dinner and waterfront | A distant second market the same night |
| Skating visit | Confirm a session before meal planning | Carrying bulky shopping while changing equipment |
| Family | One main activity with a rest break | Treating every seasonal feature as compulsory |
| Old-town exploration | Choose Panlong or Zhujiajiao as the main stop | Underestimating travel because both are in Qingpu |
Around the water, supervise children and respect barriers rather than stepping beyond them for a reflection photograph. Plan a seated meal or indoor pause instead of relying entirely on exposed stalls for rest. These choices matter more to a comfortable outing than collecting every possible camera angle.
Frequently asked questions
Is January 2026 a new announcement for Christmas 2026?
No. The 11 January endpoint belongs to the season that began in November 2025.
Does seeing the tree require a skating ticket?
The activities should not be treated as the same service. Do not buy a skating package simply because you want to see the display; first check the separate entry conditions for the areas you plan to visit.
Is there a fixed daily switch-on time?
Check the day’s lighting arrangements before travelling; a promotional photograph is not a promise of a fixed hourly switch-on.
Can I walk from here to central Xintiandi as one short route?
They are different destinations. Panlong is in Qingpu, and the city-centre visit needs separate transport planning.
Is it worthwhile without skating?
It can suit visitors who enjoy waterside streets, dining and a slower outing. For a very short gap, compare the round-trip journey before travelling solely for the tree.
