Qiantan Winter Market 2025 Review: Four Chocolate Days, Art and Access

The main planning trap at Qiantan is treating a longer-running winter art programme and a two-weekend chocolate market as one calendar. If you are travelling for hot chocolate, a particular baker or a branded stall, the market date matters more than a photograph of the installations. An art-led waterfront outing can follow a different rhythm.

This guide covers the December 2025 Qiantan Chocolate Celebration and the accompanying Starlight Kingdom winter programme. Both are historical. As of 22 October 2026, full new-season details are still to come; the past vendors, characters and dates are not a promise for late 2026.

    Chocolate market versus Starlight Kingdom

The celebration occupied two consecutive weekends beginning 13 December: 13, 14, 20 and 21 December 2025. It was a limited component of the winter season, not a market guaranteed whenever an installation remained on display.

    Component Historical arrangements Keep separate
Chocolate Celebration Four December 2025 days at Qiantan Park Lane Stall dates versus the longer art programme
Starlight Kingdom installations Multiple Qiantan locations during the winter season Display duration versus market operation
Storybook train December weekends and the New Year holiday Not every weekday or an established shuttle service
Shops, restaurants and parks Their own normal operations Not the festival timetable

Qiantan Park Lane is not a collective name for every nearby mall. Check whether the target is Park Lane, Crystal Plaza, L+PLAZA or another venue before comparing directions, parking offers and activity conditions.

Choose your chocolate priorities before committing your appetite

The past edition featured more than forty chocolate brands, with international food, desserts, tea, coffee and crafts alongside them. Historical examples include Pierre Marcolini and Charbonnel et Walker. These are 2025 participants, not a confirmed vendor list for a future edition.

Decide whether you most want a hot drink, baked goods or a gift box. Drinks need to be carried while walking, pastries lend themselves to sharing, and gifts may spend the rest of the day outdoors or in crowded transport. Buying several rich desserts immediately can leave little appetite for the stall you actually came to try.

One popular hot chocolate drew long waits during the past edition, and a visiting bakery sold out of some products. That is not a prediction of future queues. It demonstrates why production speed and limited stock can matter at a temporary market. For a must-try item, ask how ordering and collection work before exploring elsewhere; do not treat one historical wait as a live estimate.

Companions who are less interested in sweets can have a proper meal first, share one dessert or explore nearby art before meeting again. Ask individual vendors about ingredients and allergens rather than assuming that a brand name establishes the recipe.

The art programme was a story route, not just one tree

The programme included 26 public-art installations across Park Lane, Crystal Plaza, L+PLAZA and Qiantan Friendship City Park. This was a distributed winter programme, not a compact theme park with every feature behind one entrance.

Jean Mallard’s art linked scenes such as a forest station, lonely planet, happiness gate and garden maze through a bear character’s search for companions, with friendship and courage as the theme. Visitors interested in illustration can select a few connected scenes rather than treating the number 26 as a compulsory completion target.

For a food-led visit, nearby art can fill a sensible gap between ordering and collection. For an art-led visit, choose the route first and treat food as a flexible stop. Sharing a winter-season label does not make every component equally important to your trip.

Train rides, stamps and performances need their own terms

The historical storybook train operated on December weekends and during the New Year holiday. Fares, intervals and child rules need separate checks. Check its conditions before riding rather than treating it as a free shuttle that replaces every walk.

The chocolate celebration also included dessert-themed displays and a cocoa-themed stamp activity. Before starting a trail, check its task area, spending requirements, redemption conditions and closing time. An advertised stamp collection is not proof that everyone receives a gift or that every task is free.

    Question Why it matters
When do stalls start and stop taking orders? Confirm the daily market hours separately
Does the train need tickets, booking or a queue? A ride’s existence does not imply unrestricted admission
Do stamp tasks require purchases? Redemption rules cannot be omitted
Which area hosts today’s performance? The programme spans multiple venues
Can a made-to-order item be collected later? Waiting and walking plans should work together

Oriental Sports Center station and the Park Lane approach

Lines 6, 8 and 11 serve Oriental Sports Center station. Line 19 was a future development in the past edition’s access information, not an operating route for that visit.

Navigate onwards to Qiantan Park Lane around Qianjiatan Road. The past event address was 12 Qianjiatan Road. Reach that specific precinct, then follow the actual market map rather than assuming that arrival at Taikoo Li Qiantan means arrival at the chocolate stalls.

Follow the day’s event directions for the appropriate exit rather than assuming the stalls are a fixed number of minutes from the platform. Moving between installations adds crossings and walking beyond the station journey. Families with pushchairs, wheelchair users and older visitors may prefer a shorter section instead of an obligatory circuit of every site. The Shanghai transport guide covers the wider city connection.

    Three workable half-day plans

Interest Suggested approach Drop this expectation
Chocolate Confirm the market day, choose priority vendors, share, then see nearby art Every product available without a wait
Family outing A short story route, with train conditions checked separately Completing all 26 installations
Art and waterfront Choose an exhibition section, then fit food around it Market stalls always matching display dates

If you also have an evening performance at Oriental Sports Center or Qiantan 31, protect the formal show’s arrival time. Food ordering, collection and the walk to the venue do not disappear merely because everything is in Qiantan.

Compare districts with the Shanghai Christmas guide. First-time visitors can also use the Shanghai travel guide to decide whether Qiantan merits a half-day or whether limited time belongs elsewhere.

    Frequently asked questions

Did the chocolate market run all winter?

No. The 2025 celebration ran on 13, 14, 20 and 21 December. A longer art-display period did not extend those dates.

Were all participating brands chocolate vendors?

No. Food, coffee, tea, desserts and crafts also appeared. A total brand count should not be reported as a chocolate-stall count.

Was the train a free transport service?

Treat it as a separately regulated experience, not a guaranteed free shuttle.

Are the same art and brands confirmed for late 2026?

New-season details are still to come. Historical collaborations and vendor records cannot simply be rolled into a new year.

With one hour, should I prioritise food or art?

Choose the actual reason for visiting. Confirm the stall and collection arrangements for a particular dessert, or select one short art section instead of trying to complete both programmes.
