Where to stay in Wuxi
The main Wuxi decision is between downtown, the historic canal districts and time beside Li Lake or Taihu. Liangxi suits Nanchang Street, city meals and metro-based outings. Huanhu Road and Jinyuan Road belong on the shortlist when lakeside walks and hotel facilities matter more. Both make good trips, but they should not be judged as one walking neighbourhood.
These ten hotels distinguish Sanyang Square, Qingming Bridge and Nanchang Street, Taihu Square, Wuxi railway station and the lake areas. Taihu Square is an urban place name, not the shore of Taihu. A landmark in a hotel name does not place the entrance beside the attraction. Yixing and the Mashan/Lingshan resort area are outside this comparison.
Wuxi and Wuxi East are different railway stations. A booking near Central Station does not mean you can walk there after arriving at Wuxi East, so arrange that last transfer before travelling with luggage. Photographs below include different room categories and shared spaces; compare the pictures of the category you plan to book.

The hotel shortlist
1. Atour S Hotel, Wuxi Nanchang Street Taihu Square

Atour S is a useful starting point when Nanchang Street, the Qingming Bridge area and evening canal outings drive the itinerary. The property at No. 7 He Lane, Nanchang Street, Liangxi, lists a gym and restaurant, giving a city break a straightforward hotel base without requiring daily transfers from a lakeside resort.
Both Nanchang Street and Taihu Square appear in the name, so use the actual address when planning an approach to the canal. Taihu Square is an urban location. Travellers picturing morning walks beside Taihu should compare the lakeside properties instead.
2. Wuxi Taihu Hotel

Wuxi Taihu Hotel occupies garden-style grounds at No. 1 Jinyuan Road in Binhu. An indoor pool, gym and tennis facilities give the stay substance beyond a room for the night. It suits travellers leaving time for the hotel and exploring the Meiyuan and Guanshe Villa side of Taihu.
Its rhythm differs from a Nanchang Street or downtown shopping stay. Yuantouzhu still requires a journey to the entrance you intend to use; the Taihu name should not be read as a promise of a hotel beside the attraction gate.
3. JW Marriott Hotel Wuxi

JW Marriott Hotel Wuxi occupies upper floors of the north tower at Suning Plaza, No. 109 Renmin Middle Road. It suits visitors who want central shopping below and city views above. The Sanyang Square area also offers access to Metro Lines 1 and 2 for outings in different directions.
An indoor heated pool, fitness facilities and hotel dining make it reasonable to spend an evening in. The setting is distinctly high-rise and urban; garden grounds and lakeside walking belong to a different shortlist.
4. Ascott Central Wuxi

Ascott Central Wuxi is at the east entrance of Yunfu Building, No. 290 Zhongshan Road. Its one- to three-bedroom residences are worth comparing for a longer central stay or a group wanting a different layout from conventional hotel rooms. Shopping and the Sanyang Square area support a daily city routine.
An indoor pool, gym and sauna add leisure facilities to the residence format. Compare the number of bedrooms needed by the party, and use the east entrance when arranging arrival rather than relying only on the commercial building name.
5. Hotel Indigo Wuxi Qingming Bridge by IHG

Hotel Indigo Wuxi Qingming Bridge is at No. 88 Jingouqiao South Road, a good combination of ancient-canal outings and time spent inside a design-focused hotel. Landscaped spaces, an indoor pool, gym, bar and cafe provide reasons to return between excursions.
The strongest pairing is the hotel and its surrounding historic canal district. An evening around Nanchang Street followed by a separate daytime canal walk can give the area two different moods without making every nearby sight part of one exhausting outing.
6. InterContinental Wuxi by IHG

InterContinental Wuxi stands at No. 6 Yonghe Road in the Taihu Square urban area. It fits museum-side plans, business appointments and travellers who prefer a substantial city hotel. An indoor pool, gym and bar give the property useful downtime facilities.
Taihu Square can confuse first-time visitors: it is a city place name rather than the shore of Taihu. This location belongs in a comparison of urban sightseeing and business bases; a lake-focused holiday calls for the Binhu options.
7. Holiday Inn Wuxi Central Station by IHG

Holiday Inn Wuxi Central Station is at No. 18 Xingchang North Road. It is especially relevant for a rail arrival followed by another intercity journey. The property describes a second-floor passage towards Wuxi railway station, with Metro Lines 1 and 3 serving the area.
The indoor pool, gym, restaurant and cafe make this more than a place to sleep between trains. Confirm the station printed on the ticket and the usable entrance for arrival: Wuxi East is a different station, not the one beside this hotel.
8. Hotel Nikko Wuxi

Hotel Nikko Wuxi is at No. 9 Yongle East Road, a city base for the Nanchan Temple, Nanchang Street and canal districts. An indoor pool, gym, tea room, restaurants and cafe suit travellers seeking substantial hotel facilities alongside urban outings.
Compare it with Indigo and Atour S for a canal-oriented trip, while remembering that their entrances and walking starting points differ. Mark the part of the district you most want to explore and consider the return to the hotel, rather than treating the whole canal street as one pin.
9. Wuxi Juna Hubin Hotel

Wuxi Juna Hubin Hotel is at No. 1 Huanhu Road beside Li Lake. It suits a day built around lake scenery, rest and hotel facilities, including an indoor pool, gym, bar and dining. Downtown outings can then be grouped into a separate excursion.
The property describes boat outings towards Yuantouzhu, but operating days, departures and eligibility need current confirmation. Treat this as a possible experience rather than an assumed daily complimentary shuttle, and retain a land-based option if the boat is important to your itinerary.
10. Wuxi Marriott Hotel Lihu Lake

Wuxi Marriott Hotel Lihu Lake is at No. 188 Huanhu Road. It fits slower outings around Li Lake and the Liyuan area, with garden surroundings providing a different feel from downtown towers. A gym, several restaurants and a cafe support time spent around the property.
The Chinese listing uses the Lufa Marriott name. Give your driver No. 188 Huanhu Road as well as the hotel name. This is a good side of the city for lake outings, but allow separate journeys for central shopping and the canal districts.
Frequently asked questions
Where should a first-time visitor stay?
Choose the canal districts for Nanchang Street and Qingming Bridge, Sanyang Square for shopping and metro access, or the lake areas for a slower stay.
Is Taihu Square beside Taihu?
No. It is an urban area. InterContinental and the Taihu Square wording in Atour S belong to city itineraries.
Are Wuxi and Wuxi East the same station?
No. Holiday Inn Central Station serves the Wuxi station area. Use the full station name for tickets and transfers.
Can I walk everywhere from Nanchang Street?
You can explore sections of the canal district on foot, but the lake areas and other city sights still need separate transport.
How do the Sanyang Square options differ?
JW Marriott offers a high-rise hotel experience, while Ascott has multi-bedroom serviced residences suited to a different group layout or length of stay.
Does a lake hotel work for nightly canal dinners?
It is possible with transport, but repeated morning and evening canal visits generally favour a city base.
Can I rely on the Juna Hubin boat as a shuttle?
Do not assume a fixed operation. Confirm departures, boarding arrangements and destination, and keep a land-based alternative.
Is Taihu Hotel beside the Yuantouzhu gate?
Do not treat it that way. The hotel is on Jinyuan Road; plan transport to the attraction entrance you intend to use.
Which options list indoor pools?
Taihu Hotel, JW Marriott, Ascott, Indigo, InterContinental, Holiday Inn Central Station, Nikko and Juna Hubin list indoor pools. Narrow them by location first.
Why does the Marriott name look different?
The English listing is Wuxi Marriott Hotel Lihu Lake, while the Chinese name uses Lufa. No. 188 Huanhu Road identifies the property covered here.
Making the final choice
Compare Atour S, Indigo and Nikko for the canal districts; JW Marriott and Ascott for central shopping and metro access; and InterContinental for Taihu Square plans. Holiday Inn serves a station-led trip. Taihu Hotel, Juna Hubin and Marriott Lihu Lake reward a slower lake-area stay. Decide how much city time and lake time you want before comparing the final addresses.
