Ngong Ping offers a different Christmas outing from a city mall: the journey up Lantau and the festive village form one experience. The 2025 Winter Dreamland centred on a three-metre cable-car-shaped claw machine, with three outdoor Christmas scenes. It was not a separately ticketed amusement park full of rides.
The edition ran from 22 November 2025 to 1 January 2026. This is a look back at its installations, tasks and participation conditions. As of 22 October 2026, new-season details are still to come; the old promotion is not a currently bookable offer.
Different hours for scenery, games and Santa
| Item | Historical 2025–2026 arrangement |
|---|---|
| Winter Dreamland | 22 November 2025–1 January 2026, 10am–6pm |
| Cable-car-shaped claw machine | Same dates, 10:30am–5:30pm |
| Location | Ngong Ping Village; main game in the circular plaza |
| Santa appearances | 24–28 December 2025, intermittently between noon and 3:30pm |
| Christmas later in 2026 | Dates and returning attractions still to come |
The installation, game and character programme had separate windows. Cable-car operating and last-boarding times also required their own check; the game’s closing time did not establish the final ride down.
Three stamp stations around the village
| Historical scene | Location | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Star-wishing Christmas tree | Village pavilion | Gift decorations and a task-booklet stamp |
| Mini Christmas cottage | In front of the Bodhi Wishing Tree | A cottage scene and stamp station, not proof of daily live Santa meetings |
| Classic Christmas wreath | Outside Walking with Buddha’s gift shop | Red-and-green scenery and another stamp |
The stations were spread through the village, rather than clustered entirely around the main game. Anyone collecting stamps needed to obtain the booklet first to avoid retracing the route.
“Ngong Ping Village” is the destination’s name. Its Chinese name uses the word for market, but that does not establish a temporary Christmas market full of wooden stalls. The focus was on installations, stamping and games rather than a large temporary stall market.
A free attempt had eligibility conditions, and no prize guarantee
The three-metre installation resembled a red cable-car cabin with reindeer antlers. Snowman, gingerbread and sleigh scenery stood nearby, giving non-players other details to explore.
In 2025, a same-day child round-trip cable-car ticket or a valid 360 Annual Pass qualified for a complimentary task booklet. Completing its required tasks earned one claw-machine token. Each eligible ticket or pass could redeem one booklet, subject to availability. Online child-ticket purchasers and pass holders were directed to the village’s Holidays 360 Information Center for collection.
One token meant one attempt, not a guaranteed gift. The organiser explicitly stated that a prize was not assured every time. Other visitors could buy tokens from the circular plaza’s self-service machine, with the token price subject to separate activity terms. The free opportunity should not be presented as an inclusion with every adult cable-car ticket.
Santa appeared on five selected days
The historical announcement specified 24–28 December 2025, with appearances at intervals between noon and 3:30pm. It did not promise a fixed half-hourly timetable or immediate photographs whenever someone reached the cottage.
Families primarily interested in Santa needed a selected date and a flexible plan. Those interested in scenery and the tree could prioritise the village itself. A future character programme still requires a new announcement.
Getting there: Tung Chung Exit B, then the cable car
The operator’s current directions place Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal near Tung Chung MTR Exit B, with an approximately 25-minute ride to Ngong Ping. The village is beside the upper terminal. The Christmas installations were not in Citygate Outlets down in Tung Chung.
The 25 minutes cover the ride, not ticket checks, boarding queues or waiting. Allow separately for those stages on both journeys, particularly with children or a fixed evening commitment.
The cable-car FAQ says children under 12 must travel with someone aged at least 15, and both legs of a round-trip ticket must be used on the same day. These transport conditions are separate from historical eligibility for Christmas game tokens.
Maintenance, weather and nearby attractions
Cable-car maintenance or weather can interrupt transport while the village remains open. As of 22 October 2026, a cable-car service notice announced a cable-car suspension on 10 November 2026. That is a transport notice, not a Christmas opening date or cancellation announcement.
The Big Buddha is approximately ten minutes’ walk from the village according to the operator, but sightseeing and stair climbing require additional time. Wisdom Path has a refurbishment notice dating from June 2025, with reopening expected in the fourth quarter of 2026; an expectation is not confirmation that it has reopened.
For a Christmas tree alone, Ngong Ping involves more travel than a city-centre mall. For visitors also wanting the cable car, mountain views and the village, it makes more sense as the anchor of a half-day or longer outing. Compare other formats in the Hong Kong Christmas guide before purchasing a trip around an attraction whose return is unconfirmed.
